Avatar 2 to Possibly See Fewer Sequels as Script Is Being Reworked, Delays Expected!

The “Avatar” franchise will continue to expand, but not as much as some fans might have been hoping for. It was recently reported that James Cameron is looking for ways to reduce the total length of the series, and he’s currently aiming to limit everything to three sequels in total. This means that “Avatar 4” will be the last installment in the franchise and will wrap up the story, at least if James Cameron manages to pull off his current plan completely.

The director has certainly been quite busy lately, and we can see why he might want to focus on other things. At the same time, there’s no denying the success of the original “Avatar”, and the numbers speak for themselves – many directors in his place would be doing their best to pump out as many sequels as possible in a short timespan.

And yet, it’s been years since “Avatar” came out and nothing has come out after it. “Avatar 2” is still being developed, according to reports, but it’ll take a while before we see the film released. At the same time, Cameron’s team have been preparing to start the production of “Avatar 3” and “Avatar 4” as well, hoping to begin their work on the new films as soon as they’re done with “Avatar 2”.

All in all, it looks like Cameron is trying to keep production work on the sequels as busy as possible, so he’s definitely interested in his work on the franchise at the moment. He’s done quite a lot in the meantime, so maybe he was suffering from a brief creative block for “Avatar” and wasn’t sure how to continue the franchise, but now he’s ready to truly dedicate to it.

However, he is currently in the process of cutting out parts from the script of the planned sequels, something necessary in order to reach his planned goal of limiting it to three sequels total. This will take some time, and it could lead to delays in the production of “Avatar 2”. Actually, that’s pretty much to be expected right now and fans shouldn’t hope to get the next installment anytime soon.

This announcement didn’t make some fans of “Avatar” happy, as they were hoping to get a chance to see the continuation of the story in 2015-2016. The original plan was for the film to come out at some point in 2016, but the current outlook of things is that it will be ready in 2017, and in December at that.
