“Big Hero 6” is getting a sequel, something that was confirmed by Stan Lee a while back – and while we don’t know many specific details about the new production, we do know that actual work on it will start after “Guardians of the Galaxy 2” has been completed. There will be some changes introduced in the new film, apparently, but the main structure of the original is going to be preserved. And Disney would be smart to do that too, as “Big Hero 6” was quite the successful film when it came out.
Fans have been very eager to learn what happens to Hiro and Baymax, the cute duo from the original film – and of course we expect to see them in the sequel, although we don’t know if their roles will be changed in any way. There have been rumors that there might be more focus on an unknown new character, but it’s somewhat hard to put those in a realistic perspective at the moment, especially with the lack of official information we have.
We don’t even know the name of the movie at the moment, although fans have already started calling it “Big Hero 7”. We wouldn’t expect to see this as the official name of the film for various reasons, although we certainly wouldn’t put it past Disney to decide to follow such a naming pattern, especially if they decide to turn it into a longer running franchise.
Tadashi, Hiro’s brother who originally created Baymax, might return as well, even though it was implied that he’s gone in the original. What’s more, he might actually be brought back as a villain, and that could be one of the big plot changes that were being discussed earlier.
While we don’t have any information from the producers on whether or not this is true, fans have already been speculating on the possibility quite actively, and many seem to be convinced that this is going to be true. It does sound like something that would shake up the plot quite a bit, and it could also be a hint that the new film is going to be a bit more dramatic and less lighthearted than its predecessor.
Disney certainly know how to do good drama when it fits their plots anyway, so the studio might decide to change things for the next installment. Of course, we should also keep an eye on Marvel’s side of things, as they could have a strong influence on how the plot is going to be developed for the sequel.
