Game developer 343 Industries has launched another phase of its ‘Hunt the Truth’ marketing campaign for its upcoming first-person shooter video game “Halo 5: Guardians” due to hit the Xbox One exclusively on October 27.
The next phase to the “Hunt the Truth” marketing campaign is called “Hunt the Chief,” which is a test-your-knowledge-style competition that will enter gamers into a fairly unique sounding contest, cites the Gaming Bolt.
Gamers who answer quickly and correctly in the contest would then advance to the ‘Spartan Field Test’ which is an eight-player laser tag tournament. The winner will win a “Halo 5: Guardians” limited collector’s edition.
‘Hunt the Chief’ is the next entry into the popular ‘Hunt the Truth’ marketing campaign that 343 Industries early this year, which has enjoyed significant attention and massive support from fans and gamers of the “Halo” franchise.
Before the ‘Hunt the Chief’ competition, the developer also launched the ‘Hunt the Signal’ alternate reality game recently as part of the ‘Hunt the Truth’ marketing campaign for “Halo 5: Guardians.”
Alternate reality game
As part of its effort to further build up the excitement and anticipation to the upcoming “Halo 5: Guardians,” 343 Industries recently launched an alternate reality game competition called “Hunt the Signal” where fans needed to work their way through an extended series of puzzles.
Last week, competitors to the alternate reality game have come across a set of images that had hardcore “Halo” video game fans captivated. The images are composed of four gifts of strange-looking cells, the first one even growing surface all around its surface while the two others appear to breath. The last image shows a strand of DNA that has been broken apart in some areas to be recombined into something new.
Although those are merely cryptic images, the official “Halo” forums are currently abuzz on the real identity of the images shown in the alternate reality game, resulting to two different fan theories.
The first theory, as already mentioned, suggests the return of The Flood to “Halo 5: Guardians” while the second theory claims that the images are merely virus from the live action series “Halo: Nightfall.”
Highly anticipated
Late in March, Microsoft has officially announced the worldwide release date of October 27 for the most anticipated game on Xbox One.
With the announcement, “Halo 5: Guardians” becomes the only Xbox One video game retail exclusive with a confirmed release date this year. Since both the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Wii U have yet to get a release date for their video game retail exclusives this year, “Halo 5: Guardians” is also the major console exclusive of any kind that is already confirmed for 2015.
The original “Halo: Combat Evolved” has been the flagship video game of Xbox since 2001. It was because of the game that millions of video game enthusiasts were convinced to purchase the original Xbox gaming console.
