After formally being introduced in Bangkok, Thailand in March this year, the 2016 Toyota HiLux will finally hit the retail markets on May 21. The pickup truck will also be known as Toyota HiLux Revo in other markets.
Less than a week before it officially rolls out to the retail markets, there have been leaked images of the new pickup truck from the Japanese carmaker showing the infotainment screen, a push-button differential lock, and a central trip computer screen of the 2016 Toyota HiLux, details Car Advice.
The surprising thing about the leaked images is not the photos or what’s shown in the photos but actually the fact that those features were actually adapted from the Lexus vehicle range.
Lexus is a sister company of Toyota whose focus is to design and manufacture high-end and certainly more pricey vehicles.
Dissecting the leaked images
The infotainment screen resembles the display of an Apple Ipad featuring an LCD touch-screen display but it may actually be smaller in actual with less graphic detail.
The image of the central control cluster, housing the tachometer and speedometer, shows four backlit gauges with center LCD screen that really looks to have been derived from a Lexus vehicle.
The LCD screen indicated the trip computer, navigation, music and messages tabs, whose controls are mounted on the steering wheel for convenience and ease of use.
The other image leaked was that of a single-zone automatic climate control cluster, whose arrangement seems to suggest that it is a mid- or upper-specification HiLux that was pictured. Worth noting also in the image is the button-activated rear differential lock.
Recent images of the 2016 Toyota HiLux showed that the second gear lever for all-wheel drive mode activation has been replaced with a dial for ease of use.
Firm pickup truck
According to 2016 Cars Reviews, the 2016 Toyota HiLux will be a firm truck that shall draw strength from the popularity of its first model that came out in 2004.
The pickup truck shall be a top tier vehicle which shall exude quality, efficiency, purpose and functionality.
In terms of its exteriors, the 2016 Toyota HiLux is far different from its predecessor as it will not follow the previous ‘Keen Look’ design language used by the Japanese carmaker. The new HiLux shall have slim headlights with projector lights and LED DRL, among other exterior features.
