Discussions about Cartoon HD still aren’t dying down – if anything, the app has been gaining more and more attention in the media, as various users have been questioning its future and what its developers could do to revive it in a legitimate way. Right now, it doesn’t suffer from any shortage of users, as there are numerous people actively interested in Cartoon HD and searching for its various copies all the time.
And yet, the fact that it was removed from official app stores was a harsh blow to the app’s popularity, and it ensured that the only people who would be able to get their hands on it in the future are the ones with a little more technical knowledge. Because right now, the app is only available in the form of a browser-based application, or alternatively it can be downloaded as a custom APK that then has to be manually installed by the user.
The second scenario is the one that most people have been going with, but it’s not that easy for most – it requires a little technical knowledge and the willingness to take a risk, because installing a custom APK does come with its own dangers. Users have to be wary about potential viruses, and even though the legitimate sources for the APK are well-known and can be discovered easily with a quick Google search, it’s still a risky ordeal. There have been reports of hostile takeovers of various websites hosting the APK which have apparently been motivated by the app’s popularity in the first place. And while we can’t confirm any of those reports right now, we could certainly see them as being legitimate.
Meanwhile, the web version of the app continues to thrive and it’s been enjoying more and more users on average, with no reports of any imminent takedowns coming. It’s possible that the authorities really are planning to bring down the web version of the application, but there would be various logistical issues with that, and it would probably be more trouble than it’s worth for them right now.
After all, it won’t take long before another version of the same website is put up, and it will be game of cat and mouse that the IP holders aren’t going to win very easily. Still, this hasn’t stopped them from trying, and there have been various reports of big media companies trying to figure out what they can do to effectively stop Cartoon HD dead in its tracks.
