Various rumors have been going around regarding the future of the “Transformers” franchise, and some of them have been indeed quite interesting. According to the latest bits of information – some of which have even already been confirmed – we’re going to see various developments, such as Mark Wahlberg and Shia LaBeouf given an opportunity to play in the lead role thanks to the multi-sequel strategy that the franchise is currently being developed under.
Indeed, “Transformers 5” is going to have multiple separate sequels, and according to Akiva Goldsman, it’s not just about a sequel that will span over multiple parts, but we’ll also see additional spinoffs from the main franchise coming to light as well. Goldman is actually not on the writing team himself, but he’s heading the search for writers to be taken on the team, and he’s being assisted by Michael Bay, Steven Spielberg and Lorenzo di Bonaventura.
There have been speculations about both Shia LaBeouf as well as Mark Wahlberg regarding their roles in the upcoming film, and in both cases the rumors are saying that we could see the actors in the leading role in the new production. Both of them have been linked to the film in one way or another so far, so it’s pretty much guaranteed that we’re going to see them on the screen, but whether or not they’re given a major role remains up for debate. Of course, it’s definitely possible that the film would have more than one major roles to be filled, especially given both actors’ previous appearances in the franchise.
In fact, there have been claims that some of the sequels in the franchise are going to explore multiple different timelines, making it perfectly possible for both Shia LaBeouf and Mark Wahlberg to coexist with their respective characters. While it’s not been officially confirmed that we’ll get to see both of them in the same movie right now, we did at least get a hint that they will likely cross paths in the future, which is just as good.
Currently, the film is scheduled for a 2017 release, debunking rumors that it was being prepared for 2016. There was apparently quite a lot of work left to do, preventing the crew from completing the film for a 2016 launch, and a lot of it reportedly hinges on Michael Bay. The director is currently occupied with other projects, and he hasn’t been able to give his full dedication to his work on “Transformers 5”, which could explain his absence from the picture and the delay in the production of the next “Transformers”.
