HTC Desire 816 Continues to Hold Sway as a Premium Yet Affordable Phablet

HTC Desire 816 is just the second phablet of the Taiwanese company that banks on its premium looks, stereo speakers, and affordability to make waves in the retail markets, notes GSM Arena.

While it has the features of the HTC One flagship series, it also sports mid-range specifications owing to its lower price.

The Taiwanese tech company has launched the HTC Desire 816 in April 2014 and more than a year later, it still continues to hold sway as one of the more durable and better-performing phablets of today.

The phablet may not have the aluminum unibody that HTC One mini series devices possess but it has the same camera setup and is powered by the same chipset. The screens have the same 720-pixel resolution although the HTC Desire 816 is obviously the larger of the two.

Many of today’s flagship smartphones have hit a wall in terms of innovation which is why they started resorting to gimmickry features. HTC simply capitalized on the situation by coming up with the Desire 816 and its strategy seems to have paid off handsomely as the phablet appears to be going great guns on the competition.

Despite being a product of Taiwan, the HTC Desire 816 is also getting warm reception in China, the biggest retail market in the world, and that is more than enough that HTC could ask for in its phablet.

Lollipop on HTC Desire 816

Last month, reports came out that HTC Desire 816 is already being updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop and Android 5.0.2 Lollipop from the Android 4.4 KitKat when it came out of the box upon its release last year.

Although the Taiwanese tech company will not be officially rolling out the Android 5.1 Lollipop firmware update to HTC Desire 816 anytime soon, users of the widely-lauded mid-range handset now have the option to do so through the Android open source project, the CyanogenMod 12 ROM!

The HTC One M9, the flagship smartphone of the Taiwanese tech company, which rolled out to the retail markets this month, is also coming out of the box with Android 5.0.2 Lollipop on it but users will have the opportunity to get a free over-the-air update to Android 5.1 Lollipop.

It is the only HTC smartphone thus far that can be officially updated to the latest firmware update to Google’s current mobile operating system.

Steps have been published on how users of HTC Desire 816 can taste the sweet goodness of the Android 5.1 Lollipop on their smartphones.
