PlayStation Plus subscribers are starting to feel that Sony is not giving them variety and quality as far as the monthly free games called Instant Game Collection is concerned.
PlayStation gamers believe that the free games have not been meeting most of their expectations vis-à-vis the amount of their investment on the PlayStation Plus service. They are complaining in particular how the free games seem to have lost variety during the months when the Instant Game Collection has been available on the PlayStation 4, notes Gamepur.
This week or on May 6, a total of six games will make it to the PlayStation Plus as part of its monthly free games including Ether One, Guacamelee! SuperTurbo Championiship Edition, The Unfinished Swan, Race the Sun, Murasaki Boy, and Hohokum.
Perusing through the list, it is obvious that Sony has been putting platformers and puzzle games for its free games lineup on the PlayStation Plus.
Somehow, the decision does not suit most of the gamers’ preferences. One gamer even commented on Reddit that he is already getting bored with the quirky platform puzzles that Sony has been giving as free games to PlayStation Plus subscribers.
He said that it is no longer an issue if Sony will release a triple A or an independent video game but the company should at least be mindful of the gamers by infusing a touch of variety into its monthly Instant Game Collection.
The same gamer said that there has been a dearth of fighting games in the IGC released by Sony for the PlayStation Plus subscribers last year. And so are racing, role-playing, sports, as well as point-and-click games.
But in terms of quirky platform puzzlers, Sony has been giving it a whole lot and that has really bored, or worst, piqued gamers almost to no end.
Investing too much on indie games
It has been noted by PlayStation Plus gamers that Sony has been investing too much on indie games rather than AAA titles, which comes out far and too few between. This is very evident in particular to those who are using the company’s next-generation gaming console, the PlayStation 4.
Sony may have fortified its PS4 free game portfolio of late, but most of these games actually belong to the same genre, or those regarded as platformers. Indie developers prefer to work on platformers because they are easier to do and program plus the fact that they only work on 2D mechanics, as opposed to the more difficult 3D.
Early this year, PlayStation gamers expressed their preference for AAA games on the Instant Game Collection. But instead of removing the existing AAA games on its roster on the IGC, Sony decided to add some indie games to it to at least give gamers some respite as far as variety is concerned.
The reaction of Sony to the clamor is a clear indication that the company does lack variety on the premium game delivery service that it is offering to its loyal gamers.
