The “Call of Duty” franchise seems to be in a renaissance period, as the various development studios responsible for the different parts of the series have finally started to figure out what kinds of changes fans want to see. It’s been said for a while now that the franchise has been going stale, and “Call of Duty: Ghosts” was received very poorly by most fans and critics.
However, the subsequent successful launch of “Advanced Warfare” proved that the series still has potential, and it showed that people might be interested in seeing some more advanced forms of movement in order to spice up the gameplay. There were other changes introduced in “Advanced Warfare” as well, but for the most part the game was focused on giving players a lot more freedom of motion.
“Black Ops 3” is going to continue that trend, giving players even more opportunities to navigate the levels in advanced methods, while it will also improve the gameplay in other new ways. The game will feature a new way of running its single player campaign, making levels more open and giving players a free choice in deciding how they’re going to approach each mission.
Compared to the “shooting gallery” style of the missions in the previous games, this could be a refreshing change indeed. The campaign is also going to require a more creative approach from players overall, and it won’t be a stereotypical “Call of Duty” experience, according to previews.
Level design is also apparently going to be significantly different in the multiplayer component of the game, although it’s still going to preserve the main characteristic features of the franchise. Players will now also have the ability to customize and upgrade their soldiers, not just their weapons, and it will be just as important to develop a proper soldier configuration as it will be to choose the right weapon settings.
Wii U gamers might also get a chance to enjoy the franchise, according to rumors. It’s a fast-paced shooter and it might need some work in order to make it fit into the style of the Wii U’s traditional games, but it definitely has potential on that platform if it’s done right. It remains to be seen if the game will be changed a lot in order to accommodate for the Wii U or if it will be left mostly intact. However, it’s very likely that Activision are going to push for some changes in order to make it more appealing for the Wii U market, and there are various things that could be done to the game to that effect.
