We’ve known for a while that “Gran Turismo 7” is being developed with a lot of effort from Polyphony Digital, as the studio is betting a lot on the game. They already have some serious competition from other sides, and despite the fact that the name “Gran Turismo” is a pretty big one in the world of racing games, the studio realizes that they can’t rely on their fame alone forever, and they have to keep in touch with current trends if they want to stay successful.
The new “Gran Turismo 7” is reportedly going to be a massive game – it will significantly expand on what was offered by “Gran Turismo 6” and the franchise as a whole before that, and it will be the first title in the franchise exclusive to the PlayStation 4. This has reportedly allowed the developers to approach their work on the game in a different way, with a lot more creative freedom than they’re used to.
That’s because they don’t have to cope with the limitations of the PS3 anymore, and when they’re also developing for one platform, this makes optimizing the game significantly easier and more straightforward. The developers won’t have to implement workarounds that make the game work on different types of hardware, and instead they’ll be able to focus on the single platform that they know works best for their needs.
The company has also recently expanded their workforce, with new engineers specifically tasked with the production of tools and other software components getting hired. It’s clear that the studio isn’t about to hold back on their work on the title, and will do everything in their power to see it successful.
What could they do to meet current expectations though? Fans are already expecting an amazing title, so Polyphony should definitely make sure that they’re giving it every layer of polish they’re capable of before putting it out on the market. Some fans have been calling for a bit more realism, as opposed to the slightly arcade-y direction that the franchise apparently took recently, but on the other hand, others seem convinced that the game could actually benefit from giving players a bit more freedom and not punishing them for their mistakes so much.
Exact details on the new title are still scarce, so we’ll have to wait until the studio is ready to release a little more information. One thing is for sure though – this title will either shoot “Gran Turismo” back into the spotlight, or spell the end of the franchise. Considering how many people are actively following the progress on the new game though, we’re certainly hoping for the best right now.
