Director Brad Bird has disclosed early in April that he has started writing script for “The Incredibles 2,” the sequel to the 2004 animated blockbuster from Disney and Pixar.
But he refused to provide any further details, worried that releasing too much information may relegate the movie to a mere footnote or commentary on the current state of the superhero genre, details the Flickering Myth.
In a recent interview, Bird says that he is worried about critics commenting too much on other movies that they overlook its good points.
He said that films should work on their own merits and that viewers should recognize them for such. He also said that he thinks the greatest special effects of an animated movie like “The Incredibles 2” are its characters and not the computer-generated images or effects.
Bird explained that he really loves the characters of “The Incredibles” and getting the opportunity to be with them once again with “The Incredibles 2” gets him excited to no end.
Still, he is mum on the release date of the movie. But considering that he is still in the process of finalizing the script, a 2016 or 2017 playdate may seem likely.
Characters will see through the movie
The director believes that a lot of movies have seemed to forget that the main ingredient to films is their characters. Instead they bring out a lot of fireballs and then later on wonder why the fireballs don’t have the impact the way they expected them to be.
Bird said that they should put on mind that a fireball is as only good as the person or character in the movie running it. He said that fireballs in “The Incredibles” were just desserts since the main fare were the characters led by Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl and their superhero-children.
The director says that he likes to be creative in “The Incredibles 2” so he is willing to commit mistakes over and over again until he finally recognizes and corrects them accordingly. Bird considers filming as like a person who does not know how to swim being thrown into a pool until he gets to learn to swim and survive on his own.
Good story
Bird explained that Pixar does not look to movie sequels as a financial plan. He said that the company values its relationship with its audience more than the earnings it can make on the movies it is producing.
Bird said that his goal is to come up with a good story for “The Incredibles 2” to ensure that it comes out better than the first film.
Maybe Brad Bird was just playing coy lest he lets out a mouthful about “The Incredibles 2” but there are already tons of internet news sites that have published the supposed storyline for the sequel.
Accordingly, in “The Incredibles 2,” Mr. and Mrs. Incredibles, featuring Bob and Helen, have decided not to be too active with their superhero crime fighting ways and allow their two teenage children Violet and Dash to do the work for them.
The two are now considered the greatest superhero in the world while their parents focus on rearing their now six-year-old younger brother Jack-Jack, whose super power ability is to change faces.
Unfortunately, unlike his superhero parents and his sister and brother, Jack-Jack cannot control his powers. His parents Bob and Helen have also become very protective of him following Jack-Jack’s kidnapping by a villain. Eventually, Jack-Jack became an outcast and a rebel.
It was during this time that Jack-Jack realized that he can only control his super power abilities if he is angry or becomes villainous. Unfortunately, it was another villain, which speculations say is to be known as Syndrome, who first saw these unique traits of Jack-Jack and he thus mentored him to become a great villain under his tutelage.
