HTC Desire Eye and Desire 816 Getting the Android 5.0 Lollipop Update; What Issues Does the New OS Have and How to Avoid Them

Android 5 has been out for a while now, and it’s slowly but steadily making its way to all devices on the market. Most recently, it’s been announced that the HTC Desire Eye and Desire 816 have started receiving the new OS version. This has been confirmed by HTC on their UK Twitter account, and there have also been reports that the HTC One E8 and Butterfly 2 are also getting the new update.

However, this hasn’t been confirmed by the company officially yet, and we’re only hearing reports from various users who claim to have received the update on their devices. There is also no official changelog for what was introduced in the new update for the Desire Eye and Desire 816, but we can only assume that one is coming shortly.

Users have already been noticing various improvements in the operating system’s new version though, such as smoother, more intuitive animations – owing to Google’s “Material Design”, and there have also been reports of improvements in battery life and overall OS functionality and speed.

Unfortunately, those planning to download the update over their cellular connections might want to reconsider, unless they’re on an unlimited plan – the Desire Eye’s 5.0.2 Lollipop update was reported to be just under 1 GB in size, so it should definitely be downloaded over Wi-Fi for those planning to update over the air.

And even though the new Android version is a definite improvement over previous ones, users have been reporting some issues with it, at least on specific devices. LG in particular seem to be affected very badly by the transition to Android 5.0, as the company’s users have been reporting different problems with their devices after the upgrade. Specifically, many users are suffering from battery life issues, and recommend using battery saving apps to remedy the situation.

Overheating is another common complaint among LG users after upgrading to Android 5.0, and this seems to be related to the battery drain issue – apparently, the device uses a lot more CPU power than it should on average. And while some were quick to blame Google for the situation, it seems the problem is more specific for each device’s implementation of the operating system, looking at the improved performance that Samsung’s users have been reporting.

Android 5.0 Lollipop

Hopefully, LG will fix their issues soon and allow their users to enjoy Android 5.0 like everyone else, because it would be a shame to see Google’s hard work on the operating system getting swept under the rug as users don’t want to switch to the new version. This would certainly affect LG in a very negative way as well.

  1. I bought a Sim free HTC phone 7 months ago. Great phone not much storage 8GB, but moved as many apps as poss to SD card. Regularly clean the cache. It was running smoothly on Android 4.2 at about 6. 50 GB. In comes the Lollipop update, pushes the storage to 7.60 GB and any more updates will render the phone unusable. Taken loads of apps off too. £300 down the drain.
