Sometimes, being too outspoken can get one into a lot of trouble. Or sometimes it can spill the beans a lot on an upcoming fight. Floyd Mayweather Sr., the father and world-class trainer of Money Mayweather may have just revealed a little too much when he hinted of a strategy for his son’s upcoming fight with Manny Pacquaio on May 2 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Floyd Sr. disclosed that they are planning to attack Pacquiao on the body. In a recent interview, he said that he’s not about to talk about where they intend to hit Pacquiao but he said that wherever Money will hit the Pacman, the Filipino boxer would surely endure great bodily harm, reports Boxing News 24.
Last week, Floyd Sr. also claimed that Manny Pacquaio would give up during his match against Floyd in their upcoming fight.
Floyd Sr. believes that Pacquiao will do a Roberto Duran and quit the fight before it is all over. It can be recalled that Duran quit in the eighth round during his welterweight match with Sugar Ray Leonard in 1980 by raising his hand and saying ‘No mas.’ He lost all his belts then to Leonard.
The outspoken trainer, who is not officially part of the Mayweather camp, says Pacquiao is going into a lot of trouble with Money. He added that the Pacman will get a lot of good things during the match that might force him to retreat.
While Manny Pacquiao has lost five times during his career, he has never retreated or gave up during any contest which is why the prediction of Floyd Sr. seems to be way off.
Floyd Sr. even went on to envision that Pacquaio would beg down on his knees for Floyd Jr. to stop the beating. He also envisions Pacquaio saying ‘no more.’
The Marquez comparison
In defending his latest prediction against the Pacman, Mayweather Sr. cited how both Pacquiao and Floyd Jr. fought Mexico’s Juan Manuel Marquez.
He said that Pacquiao had all sorts of trouble fighting Marquez during their four matches including that infamous knockout he got in 2012. Floyd Sr. thinks that Pacquiao’s got nothing too.
Unlike Pacquiao, Floyd Jr. had an easy picking on Marquez as he beat the guy handily. So Floyd Sr. thinks it is just crazy for Pacquiao to even think that he can beat the pound-for-pound king with his so-called speed and lighting punches.
In harm’s way
Floyd Sr. also thinks that Pacquiao is really putting himself in harm’s way when he faces Money on May 2nd.
He said that he really sees Pacquiao running into so many things and he will be doing what Floyd Jr. wants him to do in the end because Money likes beating people in the ring.
The elderly Mayweather said that Money will do some real damage to Pacquiao and whatever the Filipino boxing icon is planning to counter Floyd Jr.’s strategy would surely result in him getting great bodily harm, reports ABS-CBN News.
Representatives of the Pacquaio camp refuse to respond to the latest barb from Floyd Mayweather Sr. saying that they would rather see the eight division world champion focus instead on his training, which according to them is going pretty smooth and well within the fight strategy of world-class trainer and coach Freddie Roach.
