Popcorn Time App Slowly Creeping Back to iPhones and iPads

Because of intense pressure from Hollywood film production companies, the very popular video piracy app Popcorn Time had to settle from operating underground, especially with left and right legal bamboozles being aimed at it.

The app seems to have the right techno-savvy people within so it always finds a way to make sure that users continue to use it without being detected or at least known in public.

Apparently, Popcorn Time is now creeping back to the iPhones and iPads without the knowledge of Apple, and it seems that instead of reporting it, iPhone and iPad users are enjoying it or the free movies and TV shows that the piracy app brings to their mobile devices.

On April 9, Popcorn Time launched a version of its copyright flouting bittorrent video player for iOS, which brought forth free and easy-as-Netflix form of movie and TV show piracy to millions of iPhones and iPads, reports Wired.

Unauthorized

While the new program is not authorized by Apple and is not actually available on the App Store, the developers of the program has apparently found a hole in Apple’s download restrictions.

The bright boys at Popcorn Time were able to circumvent the App Store and somehow plant its new app on Apple’s closely controlled devices, which is the latest move in the battle between Popcorn Time’s programmers and Apple’s security team.

Popcorn-Time.se is one of the most popular of several forks of Popcorn Time’s open source software. The developers say they have forged a partnership with another team of anonymous developers to create a tool called iOS Installer for Windows.

The program enables users to install Popcorn Time onto their iOS devices through Windows PC rather than the App Store. Since the download is made through Windows PC, it certainly does not need jailbreaking of iPhones and iPads.

Not content with the iOS for Windows PC, the developers of Popcorn Time are said to be working on a Mac version of the same program and will release it in two weeks time.

Relentless pursuit of solution

In an e-mail from one of Popcorn-Time.se’s anonymous developers, he said that their team has been wracking their brains almost endlessly to find a solution to enable iOS users to also enjoy Popcorn Time without having to jailbreak their Apple mobile devices.

And as expected, the developers are hiding in the cloak of anonymity to avoid the legal backlash of what they’re doing which is technically illegal since the app is still promoting movie and TV shows piracy.

It added in the e-mail that the development team’s relentless pursuit for a solution has led them to another fruitful collaboration with another group of brilliant developers and the partnership resulted to the development of the iOS Installer.

In order to use the iOS Installer, an iPhone or an iPad user simply needs to download the iOS Installer to his desktop. He can then connect the iOS device to his computer with a USB cable and simply follow the instructions on how to download the app on the iOS device.
