One of the most popular American movie franchises has been The Fast and The Furious. The movies center around illegal street racing and heists and was distributed by Universal Pictures. The very first film, came out in 2001, followed by 6 sequels and 2 short films. The movie franchise has also been featured as a video game series. Since April 2015 the movie franchise has raked in more than $2.5 billion at the worldwide box office making it Universal’s biggest franchise of all time.
One of the most popular actors in the series, Paul Walker, played Brian O’Connor, since the beginning of the franchise in 2001. However, in November 2013 Walker died in a single car crash. The 7th movie in the series, called Furious 7, was the final appearance of Paul Walker and was recently released to huge box office numbers around the world. With that being said, and even know Paul Walker has died, fans are still wondering if there will be in a movie to the series.
Typically, movies that can bring in $300-$400 million in one weekend will easily be made into sequels. Furious 8 should be a no-brainer to the directors and those involved in the movie, but there has not been any confirmation of that at this point. Even though Paul Walker would not be in the film, there are plenty of other characters that the story can center around and build from. According to a couple sources, the seed for Fast and Furious 8 has been planted and fans are buzzing about the possibility of the series continuing.
According to some film critics, Furious 7 was going to be the start of a new trilogy for the Fast and Furious films mostly because of the fact Paul Walker did die. James Wan confirmed the original ending of Furious 7 would have led to brand-new stories in the series, but needed to be changed as soon as the death of Paul Walker was announced. Vin Diesel, which please the other popular character in the movie, was on TV talking in the present tense about the possibility of Fast and Furious 8. And it makes sense, even though Walker has died, it does not mean the story can’t go on.
According to a few other sources, some of the other actors in recent films have signed on for Fast and Furious 8 and 9, giving fans the hope that the show will go on in the series will not die. There are plenty of movies that make their way past the 3rd movie in a series, but for the most part they die off rather quickly as the interest dwindles into nothing. Other rumors for the movie series include the fact that Eva Mendes’s character, which is a US customs agent, should be brought back into the story, but that has not been confirmed yet.
