About five years ago, Samsung launched their Galaxy S line of smartphones, and were immediately met with positive reception and strong support from the community. The initial device did have some flaws, but the company quickly took note of what people were saying about it and introduced some changes for the next versions. Over the years, the line has evolved into a truly successful series of smartphones, and has become one of the most popular names on the Android market.
Samsung have always been very active in implementing the latest technological advancements on the market in the Galaxy S line, and the phones were also seen as a bit of a test bed for new features from time to time, sometimes not very successfully.
The company has also been playing with various improvements and changes to the Android experience, running their own special version of the operating system which, despite still having the characteristic Android look and feel, also has its own approach to navigation and layout. The final result actually works quite well according to most, even though it takes some time to get used to.
The biggest problem for Samsung on that front has been in their release frequency. Most people agree that the company is very slow in releasing their Android updates, and their own version of the system is perpetually behind the main release line. The situation was so bad at one point, that some users preferred to root their devices and flash a base Android ROM manually just so they could get their updates on time.
Still, Samsung have obviously been putting some effort into improving the situation, and their updates have gotten a bit faster over time. It’s not clear if they will make any significant improvements in this regard in the future, or if the last cases were just random luck, but at least their fans have been happy as a whole.
The latest Galaxy S6 has been received very well, and it actually came out to a stronger positive reception than what was originally anticipated. Even though it’s not officially released yet, the device is one of the hottest talks of the Internet right now. If the company maintains their current style in the future, they can easily retain their position as one of the leading manufacturers on the smartphone market. On the other hand, they should also be careful to keep an eye out for potential innovations – stagnating for too long is surely going to cost them their fans sooner or later, and they must always be prepared to push the line forward and improve it if they want to stay relevant.
