Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge is Equally Bendable as the iPhone 6 Plus

A few weeks after the larger iPhones were released to the market late in September last year, reports came out that the iPhone 6 and more precisely, the bigger iPhone 6 Plus, reportedly bends and breaks especially when kept in the pocket.

So when the Korean tech giant launched the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge last month and all set to roll it out in the retail markets this month, insurance firms were the first to be wary of its durability.

One insurance company SquareTrade actually made a recent study as to the flexibility of the latest flagship smartphones of Samsung compared to the one of the latest Apple handsets.

Focusing more on the larger flagship smartphones, the SquareTrade research showed that the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge is as equally bendable as the iPhone 6 Plus.

More tests

In subsequent lab tests, the study also revealed that both flagship handsets also start bending when 110 pounds of pressure is applied on them. The study was made using a robot named ‘bendbot’ and it did not just included the iPhone 6 Plus and the Galaxy S6 Edge, but also the HTC One M8.

But something big is going against the Samsung flagship smartphone which would be a cause for worry for its would-be buyers.

It turns out that with continued use of bending pressure, the Apple iPhone 6 Plus stops working at 179 pounds of pressure, whereas the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge will stop being functional when 149 pounds of pressure is applied on it.

The HTC One M8 is the most bendable and breakable of the three handsets as it becomes inoperational when 120 pounds of pressure is applied on it.

Bendgate issue

The flexibility of the latest iPhones, upon discovery last year, was a subject of ridicule among the consumers and Apple competitors including Samsung which even took pot shots at the American tech giant back then. The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus being bendable was even referred to then as ‘bendgate.’

Now that the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge has been found to have the same negative attribute and is even more bendable than the iPhone 6 Plus, the Korean tech company may also get the same comeuppance from consumers and also from its competitors particularly Apple, which may take an indirect swipe at its major competitor in the global smartphone market.

In addition to a bending test, some people are also taking a drop test on the latest flagship handsets to really see how durable a new smartphone is.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge and the iPhone 6 also had a comparison recently over a drop test where it showed that the Apple’s flagship device fared better compared to the Samsung handset, notes Product Review.

The drop tests were also done on various heights beginning from the waist and goes all the way to the head or just below the head where a drop may actually happen on a smartphone user. This would yet be another advantage of the current iPhones over one of the latest flagship smartphones of Samsung.
