It was recently revealed that Pixar had reserved two release dates – November 22, 2017, and June 15, 2018 – however, there was no information about which productions they are actually planning to release on those dates. Of course, fans immediately jumped to action and started speculating on the various possibilities, and most seem to be convinced that one of the two dates is going to be for “The Incredibles 2”.
More recently, speculation has been leaning in the direction of the earlier date in November 2017, and at this point it’s looking somewhat likely that Pixar are going to indeed release the new movie on that date. Of course, these reports are coming from unconfirmed sources – which, despite their claims of being close to the production, can’t actually be verified.
So all of that should be taken with a grain of salt – but Pixar are expected to announce the release date for “The Incredibles 2” in August 2015, when they attend the D23 Expo. The other possibility for the two release dates is “Cars 3”, according to most fans, and these two movies are currently dominating the speculations and discussions.
For what it’s worth, the film’s producers haven’t actually confirmed anything yet, although we do know that Brad Bird, director of the first film, would be happy to return to his position for a sequel if Pixar approached him.
We do have some rumors about the new film’s plot which have been very prominent lately though, and they have added some weight to the possible existence of the film in the works. The main theory right now is that “The Incredibles 2” will be set several years after the original, and will focus on Jack-Jack, who’s trying to get a grip on his superpowers and goes under the wing of the wrong person.
The person in question, a villain, sees the potential in Jack-Jack and wants to help him realize it, but he also wants to teach the young boy his evil ways and turn him into an apprentice. This will apparently be the main focus of the plot in the new film, and it’s possible that Jack-Jack himself could be the villain. That would be a bit of an extreme move from the writers, but then again, Pixar always try to push boundaries with their productions. Even though they release animations, they usually put a lot of thought into their writing and tend to provoke some deep introspection on certain aspects of our lives. There should be no doubt that “The Incredibles 2” will follow that pattern, and hopefully Pixar are going to pull it off in the truly creative way that we know them for.
