It’s been a long year for the family of legendary F1 racer Michael Schumacher, and it doesn’t seem like their woes are going to be over anytime soon. The driver’s condition remains poor and unpredictable, according to the latest reports, and it’s not known when he’ll get out of his current condition, if ever. Rumors talk about different prognoses for his health, but most of them aren’t very good, and indeed, it’s not known if his condition will change during this year at all.
Interest in his condition from the public and the media remains high, as can be expected, but there’s not much that the racer’s family can say – nor do they want to in the first place, as they have gone in a mode of a total media blackout since the incident. They can’t really be blamed for that either, as it’s a very delicate situation for all by Schumacher’s side.
The racer is cared for by a dedicated team of fifteen professionals, according to reports – and while this treatment has been putting a significant financial burden on his family, they seem to be able to handle the situation so far. However, despite the fact that he’s being treated by doctors that are among the best in their respective fields, there still doesn’t seem to be a solution on the horizon for the driver.
Some experts have stated their opinions on the matter as well, claiming that while Schumacher has passed the phase where his survival was questionable, now he’s going through a phase where the quality of his survival is not very certain. According to people familiar with the situation, even if Schumacher does recover enough to get out of his coma, he will most certainly not be the same person he was before the accident, and he’ll likely have lost a major part of his brain’s functioning.
But first, before his family can even think of that at all, his body must stabilize enough to allow the doctors to proceed to the next phase of his treatment. If there’s any chance of recovery at all for Schumacher, he’s probably got the best people for that job working around the clock. But even modern medicine is not magic and not a miracle, and at this point, Schumacher may actually need a miracle to make a proper recovery, some are saying.
Fans remain actively interested in his condition and are discussing it online, but most of them seem to also be trying to respect the family’s wishes for privacy, unlike some members of the media. When – if ever – the racer’s family are ready to make a public statement, we might hear something more from his bedside.
