Sony has come up with a breakthrough partnership with Spotify and the resulting PlayStation Music on its gaming console is quite impressive.
As early as January, Sony announced that it would stop its Music Unlimited streaming service and replace it with PlayStation Music after it agreed to a deal with Spotify back then.
It was both strategic and cost-efficient for Sony because instead of streaming music on its own, it has instead brought Spotify to its gaming console, which is a pretty smart move, notes Fast Company.
PlayStation Music began going live on March 30, and all reviews and opinions of those who have had the firsthand to opportunity to listen to it thus far, indicate that it appears and sounds to be a better version of Spotify.
The music streaming service is now available on both the PlayStation 3 and the Playstation 4. It will also be available soon on Sony Xperia smartphones and tablets.
Loyal Music Unlimited fans
When Sony announced that it is ending its Music Unlimited streaming service early this year, a number of fans complained to the company for its decision.
They have even asked Sony to reconsider its decision then of doing away with Music Unlimited and partnering with Spotify, short of saying that they would prefer the former streaming service than Spotify which is one of today’s biggest, if not the biggest name when it comes to digital music streaming.
Sony would sure like to hear from the same fans once they get to hear PlayStation Music and see if they still feel the same way for the company’s decision on Music Unlimited.
Accessing is easy
An even better news is that PlayStation Music is applicable to both free and paid Spotify accounts so access is very easy. Those who still don’t have a Spotify account can actually sign up for a new account on the PlayStation, wherein it gets linked to the console automatically once the app is opened on the phone with hardly no intervention on the user’s part.
Just like in Spotify, PlayStation Music can be launch, browse around albums and playlists, and then listen to music. It is also typical to play music while playing a video game on the PlayStation, so Spotify can be adjusted using the game controller without quitting the game at all. Even the volume of the music can be adjusted independent of the sounds of the game.
Also while on PlayStation, a user can actually use the Spotify app on his smartphone and turn it into a music remote control.
Sony has indeed come up with another good one in PlayStation Music and it sure to have Microsoft’s Xbox Music a bit on the edge with its new customized music streaming service. The only question now is whether Microsoft would allow that seeming advantage to persist for long or come up with an even better music streaming service attached to its next gen gaming console soon enough.
