Easily one of the richest Formula One racers of all time, Michael Schumacher was at the height of his career then he was winning poles and an unprecedented 7 championships. He loved to go fast and started his career as a go kart racer, as many of today’s professional racers do, but there was one thing that stopped him dead in this tracks. Going fast was nothing new to the race car driver, but on the way down a snowy mountain in December 2013, tragedy struck the Michael Schumacher family.
While skiing with his family, Michael Schumacher suffered a serious head injury and had to be airlifted to a hospital where he was put into a medically induced coma. In June of last year, he was out of the coma and the very long road to recovery had started. He is currently at home to further his rehab in a specially built room that resembles the hospital suite.
Michael Schumacher’s family and doctor announced in November 2014 that the decorated Formula One racer is paralyzed and would be wheelchair bound as a result of the accident. Since that announcement, every month or so, online sources report what they can about the racer’s condition and this week there was some good news to report. According to the sources that post online, Michael Schumacher was responding to familiar sounds that come from his wife and kids. The response is tears, but at least there is something.
The recovery process is going to be a hard and long one, but any little bit of progress is going to be good news for Michael Schumacher and this situation. For the most part, the family has been very quiet about the recovery and that is why the condition updates have been very rare to come across. It was reported recently that he was bound to his bed, but that does not seem to be the case according to another source.
That source claims that Michael Schumacher is out of bed, in a wheelchair and looking out the window on most days. He gets regular physical therapy to avoid issues with his muscles, so that is also good news. The tears that everyone is seeing are a good sign that Michael Schumacher is alive and on the road to recovery. That reaction shows that he is recognizing what is happening around him and understands it as well, a very good sign according to doctors.
