After skipping the fourth installment of “Terminator” movie that came out in 2009, veteran Hollywood action star Arnold Schwarzenegger is happy to be back and be part again of “Terminator 5.”
Officially titled “Terminator: Genisys,” it will hit theaters on July 1, 2015, where it is expected to become another blockbuster for the franchise.
Paramount Pictures jumped the gun, as far as promotions is concerned, on the other likely summer blockbuster contenders this year that include “Avengers: Age of Ultron” showing on May 1, and “Jurassic World” which would be released to theaters on June 12.
Paramount has begun its publicity machine by bringing in together for a photo shoot and press conference the four key stars of “Terminator: Genisys.” In addition to Schwarzenegger, also around were Jason Clarke, Emilia Clarke, and Jai Courtney.
Getting up to speed
During the press conference on the Paramount Pictures studio last week, Schwarzenegger revealed that he has watched all the previous “Terminator” movies to get himself up to speed with the character that he played yet again on “Terminator: Genisys.” He added that he is happy to be back.
Just like in past “Terminator” movies, “Terminator: Genisys” unfurls in the future, 2029 to be exact, where the war of the Resistance versus the all-powerful artificial intelligence system called Skynet is raging.
In the previous films, Skynet sends a Terminator back in time to kill John Connor’s mother so that she won’t be able to give birth to John Connor, who shall eventually wage the war against Skynet and even has the perfect opportunity to win too.
But in the upcoming film, Resistance leader John Connor, played by Jason Clarke, sends soldier Kyle Reese, played by Jai Courtney, back to 1984 to save his mother Sarah Connor, played by Emilia Clarke, from being killed by a Terminator.
Only this time, Sarah already has her own protector in the form of an aged Terminator, played of course by Arnold Schwarzenegger, who has apparently raised her since childhood.
Taking it from the first two movies
Consistent with the earlier pronouncements about the plot of the movie, Emilia Clarke disclosed that the film harked back to James Cameron’s original characters in “Terminator” and “Terminator 2” before subsequently taking it from there.
Jai Courtney said that the beauty about “Terminator 5” is that the production team stayed loyal to the original source material, opening it up to a whole new generation. He said that the movie looks very likely to succeed because of that.
Arnie also recalled that back in 1984 when the first “Terminator” movie was shown, the plot was total science fiction. It was so unlikely then that machines will take over. More than 30 years later, the machines are all around people taking over nearly everyone’s lives.
