Now that One Direction is officially a quartet following Zayn Malik’s formal departure from the British boy band, music industry pundits are already saying that there’s no way to go for the group but to part ways at the end of the year, when they are through with their contractual obligations.
But band member Liam Payne is still optimistic that the group will still continue far longer than many are already predicting. Following the news that Zayn Malik has already left the band, Payne took to Twitter to say that while they are all deeply saddened by the departure of one of their brothers, he said that One Direction is still far from over, details RTE Ten.
One Direction has been a pop rock band for the last five years. They were formed by Simon Cromwell following their individual participation in the “X Factor UK” in 2010. They have since released four chart-topping albums including the latest aptly titled “Four” which was released in November last year.
Now, the group is officially down to four members as Zayn Malik turned his supposed break from the group’s recently-concluded “On the Road Again” tour concert in Southeast Asia into a formal resignation.
Malik left the band in Thailand after an image showing him and a girl in a Thailand night club after their concert in the country. Worried that his fiancée Perrie Edwards might mistook the photo as evidence of him cheating on her, Malik flew back to London to personally appease and explain it to his girl, who is also a member of a British girl group known as Little Mix.
In his explanation following his exit from the group, Zayn Malik said that he has never felt more in control of his life for the last five years than he is now. While fans of the group were dismayed that Zayn left already, posting thousands of sad memes on social media, many believe that the band will continue to remain solid, at least for the rest of the year.
Something special
Liam Payne said that he is fortunate to be part of something special for the last five years. It is so special in fact that none of them really understand that what they have means the world to a lot of people. He is proud of being able to contribute on putting smiles among people even on their saddest moments.
While he admits that to some people, One Direction is just a bunch of silly kids in a band, but to them and the people who were part of the band and who supported the band all throughout, 1D means so much more.
Payne said that he is saddened that they would no longer be able to perform on stages as five brothers and share the fun and joys during tours but he is quite sure that they will still be friends with Zayn no matter what.
He also recalled that when One Direction first became very successful, they all agreed that the band grew bigger than each individual band member. So while everyone has a right to be sad at the moment, Liam said that there is more to come from One Direction.
