Mewtwo from Pokemon Announced as DLC for Super Smash Bros!

An upcoming DLC pack for “Super Smash Bros” for the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS will soon allow players to use Mewtwo from Pokemon as a playable character. This has been confirmed directly by Mesahiro Sakurai, director of the game, in an event in Japan. According to him, the game’s developers are putting the finishing touches on the new DLC for “Super Smash Bros”, so it shouldn’t be long before we see it on the market.

It would be interesting to see what kind of playstyle Mewtwo will have in this game, as his main ability in the original Pokemon universe is that he’s psychic. This can open many interesting opportunities for how he could be represented in “Super Smash Bros”, and he can easily be one of the most unique characters in terms of fighting style.

We’ve known for a while that Mewtwo was coming to the title, but we didn’t have a lot of specific information about the DLC, as it was first hinted in October, but after that there was complete silence from the game’s studio. We weren’t even entirely sure if Mewtwo would be added to the base game, or if it would be a DLC character until today.

Current rumors about the exact release date for Mewtwo claim that we will be able to purchase the new DLC sometime in the spring, though this is quite an extensive period and doesn’t exactly tell us that much. It will also be possible to obtain the character for free for those who own the game already, but it will also be available as paid DLC in the future, so anyone who wants to add Mewtwo to their own game will have a chance to do so.

And while that announcement was certainly great and should put some fans’ minds to rest, it also doesn’t tell us that much in the grand scheme of things. We still have no idea when we’re going to see the new DLC exactly, or how much it would cost – but many of Nintendo’s fans have a lot of trust in the company to handle things correctly, meaning they should release the DLC soon and offer it at a good price.

There have also been rumors of other popular characters coming as DLC soon, but we don’t know which of those rumors are to be trusted yet. Some of them are coming from sources that have been correct before, but until we get an official confirmation from the studio, it’s best for fans to not get their hopes up. It’s highly likely that we’re going to get additional content for the game in the future, but perhaps finding out about it as a surprise should be part of the fun.
