‘Terminator: Genisys’ Will Be a Trilogy; Arnold Schwarzenegger Confirmed for Sequels

The fifth installment to the “Terminator” movie franchise officially titled “Terminator: Genisys” will hit theaters on July 1, 2015.

“Terminator 5” will not pick up where “Terminator Salvation,” the fourth installment to the series, left off. It is being reported as a complete film reboot of the series but some others report that it will pick up after “Terminator 2” and shall takes place in a completely different timeline, reported Screen Crush.

Apparently, “Terminator: Genisys” shall be the first of a trilogy and even though the fifth movie of the series has yet to prove its box-office mettle, the subsequent two sequels actually have playdates down the road.

The even more surprising news is that the 67-year-old Arnold Schwarzenegger, who will be returning in “Terminator 5” after skipping “Terminator Salvation,” is already confirmed for the two sequels.

Now, that’s a lot of confidence for the producers of the film. They obviously believe that the return of Arnold Schwarzenegger will once again boost the franchise, the newfound success of which they hope to sustain with the two sequels.

Resistance continues

“Terminator: Genisys” will once again revolve on the storyline about John Connor and the resistance’s battle against the Skynet and its army or cyborgs, androids, and robots.

Since Connor is destined to defeat the artificial intelligence nemesis, Skynet sends a T-800 to go back in time and kill the young Sarah Connor to prevent her from giving birth to John Connor.

But unlike the first two Terminator movies where Sarah Connor and a young John Connor was on the run against the T-800, the new Sarah in “Terminator: Genisys” is already aware of her destiny of being the mother of the son who can save the world in the future from the annihilation of Skynet.

The twist in this follow-through from the first two “Terminator” movies is that Sarah already knows her future when she was as young as nine years old because an older T-800, played by Arnold Schwarzenegger, would be raising her.

So from a destructive T-800, in the first two movies in the series, Arnold Schwarzenegger will be a good T-800 this time again. He was bad and nasty in the first film but became a good cyborg in the second film.

Two T-800s

Schwarzenegger also disclosed some details about the film in December by saying that there will be two T-800 cyborgs in “Terminator: Genisys.” The first is a younger one which will be controlled by Skynet and the other is an older version (that would be him obviously) which will be reprogrammed to be a good cyborg.

Famous fitness trainer turned actor Aaron V. Williamson will be playing the younger T-800, who will be the main nemesis in the film.

Emilia Clarke shall play the role of Sarah Connor, Jason Clarke will play the role of John Connor, and Jai Courtney will play the role of Kyle Reese.

terminator 5

Kyle Reese is the loyal soldier of John Connor in the resistance. Connor sends Reese back to 1984 to save Connor’s mother from a Terminator programmed to kill her so that she won’t ever give birth to John. But what Reese finds on his travel back in time is nothing like he expected.
