The release of the upcoming “Batman: Arkham Knight” is quite the special one, as the game’s developers are putting a lot of effort into its marketing and promotion, and are exploring some more unique ways to captivate their audience. A series of comic books are being published preceding the game itself, in which the writers have taken the opportunity to expand on the game’s story, setting up the plot with some important details.
However, as most reviewers have noted after seeing the fourth edition of the comic books, the comics aren’t that focused on the actual Arkham Knight, but are rather dealing with another aspect of the plot – the death of the Joker. It was clear that this event would have a profound impact on the story and it would affect Batman himself to some extent, and the writers are exploring this side of the plot quite deeply in the fourth issue of the comic books.
Meanwhile, not much is being revealed about the Arkham Knight himself in the comics, but it’s been known for a while that this was the writers’ intention. On the other hand, some fans have pointed out that the writers actually have their hands tied to some extent, as there’s not that much that they could talk about in the first place, given the way the comic books have been setup and what they have to discuss.
The fourth chapter of the comics also continues a trend that was noticed earlier, that they’re overlapping a bit with the story that’s already been told before. This means that players who’ve already been following the game’s plot with active interest probably won’t get anything new from some parts of the comic books, but the intention is to let everyone catch up on the plot properly, including those who’ve been out of touch with it for a while.
At the end of the issue, there’s a hint that we might get to see Harley Quinn making an appearance at some point later on, although fans are currently not sure if her presence in the story will follow the same storyline that we saw in the DLC for “Batman: Arkham City”. It could be a rehash of the old plot, or a completely new story – both would certainly make sense, but critics have noted that the writers should do their best to start distancing themselves from old stories that they have already told, and begin to explore new territories. The sooner this happens, the better, according to most fans and critics alike – but of course, we’ll eventually get a pretty big dose of new plot developments once the game itself has been released.
