Katy Perry got another feather in her Billboard cap when her “Teenage Dream” album officially made it to its 200th week in the Billboard’s 200 Chart advance dated to March 14.
The singer launched her “Teenage Dream” album in 2010 and expectedly debuted at No. 1. Katy Perry’s album slid from No. 90 to No. 126 during its 200th week but it was well within the Top 200 album list still.
“Teenage Dream” is only the 25th music album to have stayed at least 200 weeks on the chart since Billboard began using the Nielsen Music point-of-sale data on May 25, 1991, reports Billboard.
Katy Perry’s second album has joined other albums that have remained in the Billlboard’s 200 Chart for 200 weeks or more including Taylor Swift’s “Fearless,” Bruno Mars’ “Doo-Wops & Hooligans,” Mumford & Son’s “Sigh No More” and Nirvana’s “Nevermind.”
The elite group of artists is called the 200 Weeks Club during the Nielsen era. But before the Nielsen data, there have been a number of albums that have stayed for more than 200 weeks in the Billboard’s 200 Chart including Carole King’s “Tapestry,” Pink Floyd’s “The Dark Side of the Moon,” and Johnny Mathis’ “Johnny Greatest Hits,” and more.
Most -listened to female artist among males
Incidentally, in another Billboard report, Spotify has released a list of the most-listened to female acts in time for the celebration of the International Women’s Day on March 8.
The digital service found out that Beyonce is the most listened-to female artist among female listeners while Katy Perry is the most listened-to female artist among male listeners.
Beyonce got the votes of female listeners because much of her songs actually are feminist and contain female empowerment messages including “Single Ladies,” “Flawless,” “Pretty Hurts,” among several other of her hit tracks.
Katy Perry is second to Beyonce for the most-listened to female artist among females nonetheless.
But the “Roar” singer lorded it over the list of most-listened to female artist among male listeners. Spotify did not explain the reason why but it is most likely have something to do with the upbeat tracks of Katy Perry that make men want to sing along or dance with it.
Beyonce was only on the sixth spot in the list that was headlined by Katy Perry.
Almost 3 million copies sold
As Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” marks its 200th week on the Billboard’s 200 Chart, the album’s cumulative sales is now inching closer to three million, almost five years after it was officially launched.
“Teenage Dream” has already sold 2.9 million copies through the week ending March 1. It is also only the second album to generate five No. 1 singles on Billboard’s Hot 100 Chart following Michael Jackson’s “Bad” album. The five tracks in “Teenage Dream” that made it to No. 1 are “California Gurls,” “Teenage Dream,” “Firework,” “E.T.,” and “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.).”
