Almost everybody is already looking forward to the possible official launching of the Apple Watch during the American tech giant’s “Spring Forward” event slated on March 9.
But it seems that Chinese tech company Huawei is springing a surprise in the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015 currently being held in Barcelona, Spain with the unveiling of its very awesome smartwatch ahead of the Apple Watch.
Huawei released a pair of company videos just hours before the opening of the MWC 2015 and which showcased the Android Wear – powered Huawei Watch, notes Phone Arena.
The videos were aptly titled “Huawei Watch Design Story.” In the first video, a consumer named Ash Newton was saying that he wants another smartwatch to look like a watch and not another smartphone.
Newton added that he does not want another miniature wearable smartphone or just another gadget to show off, which is actually an indirect hit on the Apple Watch since the iWatch is basically a high-tech gadget more than being a watch.
Awesome looks
Rather than having a rectangular or square design with slightly rounded corners which have become the fad of today’s modern smartwatches including the upcoming Apple Watch, Huawei went back to the circular design.
Benjamin Norton, Huawei wearable designer, disclosed that the Chinese company chose a circular dial because it reflects that classic watch shape.
It also looks small compared to the modern smartwatches of today and it really appears like the standard wrist watches but with built in smart technologies. It measures only 42 millimeters in diameter, making it ideal for both sexes as it does not look too small for men or too big for women.
However, the smart features of the Huawei Watch are not too obvious like the watch of James Bond compared to the Apple Watch or the Google Watch where right off the screen, one would already know that it has smart features.
Three faces to choose from
Just like the Apple Watch, the Huawei Watch has three types of faces or designs to choose from, namely the business-type faces, the casual faces, and the sporty faces.
The surface of the watch is covered by a sapphire glass which protects it from scratches and cracks. The Huawei Watch has a metal unibody design. It also comes with interchangeable straps so that a person can change its looks depending on the occasion where he or she will be wearing it.
Since it is powered by Android Wear, the Huawei Watch also has Google Now features. Huawei is proud of the state-of-the-art activity tracking functionality of its smartwatch which can be used for navigation, giving an update on the current weather, as well as a heart rate reading.
Those who have seen the pair of company videos on the Huawei Watch believe that the Chinese tech company has put a solid bet on the luxury smartwatch market. Huawei will be announcing its price and official release dates to global markets at the MWC 2015.
