Xiaomi have several releases lined up for 2015, and the company is becoming more and more active in the smartphone market, after being a relatively unknown name compared to major players like Samsung and Apple, at least on Western markets. They’ve already released several successful phones under the Mi brand, and now they’re reportedly gearing up to launch the Mi5 this year. What will the device bring to the table?
Some users have been particularly curious about how well the Mi5 is going to compare to the Mi3, which is so far one of the most popular devices released by the company. Even though the Mi4 was also received quite well, the Mi3 seems to be the real benchmark for some fans of the company, perhaps strangely.
One of the features that the Mi5 is rumored to have is an edge-to-edge screen – that is, without a bezel. This is so far just a rumor and hasn’t been confirmed by Xiaomi themselves, but it’s a trend that has been becoming more and more popular in the smartphone world, so it’s entirely plausible. It’s also possible that the company might try something like Samsung’s Edge line, but this is just speculation as well.
The Mi5 will be a significant upgrade in terms of specifications as well, packing a Snapdragon 810 processor with 3 GB of RAM, if the rumors are true. There have also been rumors about a Snapdragon 820 being featured in the smartphone, but it’s not known if that’s going to happen, although it would certainly be nice.
Xiaomi have managed to establish a very solid name for themselves, in part due to their great marketing strategy, releasing devices at very attractive prices and building up a large fan base of followers who are then very eager to invest in their new devices. According to the most recent reports, the company has already gained a 5.2% share on the smartphone market, catching up on its major competitors quite fast.
Are we going to see a new major player in the face of Xiaomi in the smartphone world? It’s very possible over the next few months, especially once the company starts releasing more devices in the other popular portable niches, which they’re already doing. They seem quite capable of delivering well-made products at attractive prices, and they’re also good at keeping their customers happy through regular updates, so it would certainly be great to see the company progressing further and becoming an even more established brand name in the world of smartphones. The release of the Mi5 – whenever it comes to the market – should be a good hint for whether that’s happening.
