German luxury carmaker Audi can no longer contain its excitement over its second generation R8 sports car that it has actually released details and images of the vehicle weeks before its scheduled launching at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

The second generation Audi R8 sports car is not just fast; it is also powerful with a 5.2-liter V10 engine that will come in two different states of tune, notes iafrica.com.

The superior V10 Plus engine version exudes maximum power of 449 kilowatts and 560 newton meters of torque or equivalent to 610 metric horsepower or 413 pound force feet of torque.

The engine is so powerful that the Audi R8 second generation can actually go from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 3.2 seconds. It has a top speed of 330 kilometers per hour, making it the most powerful and fastest series-production Audi sports car of all time.

Meanwhile, the other not-so-powerful engine, compared only to the V10 Plus that is, is the V10 engine model that is capable of dishing off maximum power of 397 kilowatts or 539.8 metric horsepower and a torque of 540 newton meters or 398.3 pound force feet of torque.

It’s not as fast as the V10 Plus engine but it can go from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 3.5 seconds before it reaches a top speed of 323 kilometers per hour. These specifications are obviously several notches above than most sports cars in the market today.

A 2016 model

When the second generation R8 sports car is unveiled in the Geneva Motor Show in March, Audi will officially call it as the 2016 Audi R8.

The German carmaker disclosed that the high-performance sports car has been re-designed and re-developed from the ground up. With the availability of light materials and weight-saving technologies, the 2016 Audi R8 is the lightest compared to its predecessors, weighing only 1,454 kilograms.

The Audi R8 comes with either a six-speed or seven-speed manual transmission with the option for a six-speed R-tronic or seven-speed S-tronic automatic transmission.

When Audi first introduced the R8 model in 2006, it was a mid-engine, two-seater sports car that uses quattro permanent all-wheel drive system that is a trademark of the German carmaker. The newly-developed quattro drive system transmits the Audi R8’s power to the road, giving it that excellent performance.

Performance mode

The second generation Audi R8 also features a performance mode in the sports car’s drive select dynamic handling system. This function actually blends the key ride dynamics parameters of the Audi R8 to the friction coefficient of the road, allowing for smooth drive and superb handling.

In terms of interiors, the 2016 Audi R8 is also a sight to behold as it has basically kept the luxurious features of its predecessors intact.
