MacBook Air with Retina Display Could Spring a Surprise in Apple March 9 Event

Apple has already sent out invitations to a March 9 event to be held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, California.

The Cupertino-based tech giant has “Spring Forward” for the event title which indicates that it has something to do with time. Because on March 8, Americans will advance or spring forward their time by one-hour in preparation for the daylight saving time to be implemented in the US.

It is obvious that the event is meant for Apple to finally disclose to the public and the whole world the much-anticipated Apple Watch in all its splendid and gorgeous details, even though the company has already confirmed that it would release the smart wearable to the retail markets in April.

But Apple, based on its event history, does not just launch one product whenever it holds an event.

During its September 2014 event, the American tech company launched the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus as well as the mobile operating system iOS 8.0. Tim Cook also talked about the Apple Pay and the Apple Watch during that event.

In October 2014, Apple had its iPad event that saw the launching of the iPad Air 2, the iMac with Retina 5K display and the latest Mac operating system, the Yosemite OS X.

Thus, Apple could actually spring a surprise for its March 9 event with the possible launching as well of the MacBook Air wit Retina display, which has been too long in the can already, notes the San Jose Mercury News.

A 50-50 chance

Analysts believe that there is a 50-50 chance that Apple will also unveil the MacBook Air with Retina display on March 9.

In terms of sales strategy, it would be good to launch the newest Apple laptop on March since schools normally purchase such equipment in April and May.

One analyst said that the MacBook Air has long needed a refresh so if Apple wants to make a big impact on the market particularly on the school-buying process, it has to introduce the product around the March to April time frame.

The same analyst said that there has been no word on the supply chain regarding possible shipments of the MacBook Air with Retina display anytime soon, so there is also a likely chance that the latest laptop from Apple will not be making any cameo appearance in the March 9 event.

The analyst also added that Apple can actually launch the MacBook Air with Retina display on its March 9 event but the company may be having second thoughts about it since it might actually serve as a distraction to the launching of the Apple Watch.

Both are devices and they might compete with the same set of consumers. Looking at Apple’s recent events, the company normally launches a device and an operating system with it, whether for mobile or for Mac. There’s a good chance that the hyped iOS 9 will show up in the picture rather than the MacBook Air with Retina display.
