Star Wars: Battlefront 3 Coming in Winter 2015, What Will It Bring Over from Battlefield

The third installment in the “Star Wars: Battlefront” series, named identically to the first one but dubbed “Battlefront 3” by the community, has been confirmed for a release in winter 2015, at least for the PlayStation 4. The revelation came after Sony published a list of all games coming to the console in 2015 on their official blog, and the list also included the new “Battlefront 3”.

While this doesn’t say anything about the game’s release on other platforms, it’s probably safe to assume that EA are aiming for a simultaneous launch, or at least releasing the games close to one another, as they have typically done with their titles before.

The game is expected to revive an old classic franchise, and many gamers are following its development with active interest, even though there’s admittedly not that much to follow for the time being, as EA/DICE have been rather secretive about their progress. We do know that the game will feature an extensively developed single player campaign though, and it’s also expected to revolutionize the multiplayer aspect of the franchise – but how much exactly is the fight going to change?

It’s pretty much guaranteed that DICE will take some elements from their other popular shooter franchise, “Battlefield”, and implement them in the new “Star Wars: Battlefront”. The games are close enough in gameplay style to warrant that, and while of course we don’t expect to see Russian jets soaring through the air, it’s perfectly possible to see some of the more successful gameplay elements of “Battlefield” making their way into “Battlefront 3”.

Battlelog, the system powering the lobbies of “Battlefield”, may also be used in “Star Wars: Battlefront”, and there have been rumors that EA also want to set up a system similar to the Community Test Environment available for “Battlefield” premium subscribers. The system gives players the opportunity to test new gameplay additions and give feedback on them before they’re added to the main game, which has greatly helped with fine-tuning the balance and performance of “Battlefield”.

It’s also possible that we’ll see the Community Map Project integrated into “Battlefront 3”, which would be an amazing addition to the game, guaranteeing a long life for it. Custom maps are one of the main driving forces behind the longevity of online shooters, and if EA manage to implement that system successfully in the new “Star Wars: Battlefront”, the game could remain relevant for many years after its release. That is, of course, if EA/DICE also support it with regular patches and constant updates, but that depends on how well the game performs on the market in the first place.
