32-year old Andrea Flutter recently got an expensive pair of breast implants, increasing the size of her chest significantly – and while she was apparently happy with the results initially, that soon changed when she started to experience significant discomfort from the implants, and had reached a point where she could hardly go about her everyday life.
Her problems aren’t that easy to resolve right now though – even though she had decided to get the implants removed as she doesn’t want to live with them anymore, that’s apparently not a possibility in her current situation. More specifically, she’s pregnant and this would make the operation very risky, so she would have to wait until her pregnancy is over before she can remove her implants.
On the other hand, the implants are making the pregnancy itself a much more difficult ordeal than it has to be, which has certainly led to a lot of complication for Flutter. Now, she’s preparing to sue, hoping to be awarded up to £10,000 from the court proceedings, which she’s then going to use to improve her life.
Her implants are a special type, called PIP implants – they were prominent in the news some time ago when they were banned from the market, after it was discovered that they were hiding various problems that could put the life of a recipient at risk. In 2010, concerns over the possibility of PIP implants spontaneously rupturing led to their total ban, and it was additionally discovered that some implants were leaking gel which caused pain and discomfort.
That’s similar to what Flutter has been reporting, as she said that she’s been in constant discomfort ever since she had the implants inserted. Even though the physician responsible for the operation told her that her problems would eventually go away on their own, that never happened, and her situation actually progressed for the worse.
It’s not known if Flutter has a good legal case right now, but she just might. Her lawsuit is against the company that once gave the implants a “safe” certification, and she’s actually not the only woman involved in that lawsuit, as her lawyers are aware of many women affected by the situation, who would also be joining the lawsuit at some point. For all it’s worth, it seems that the legal team has a good standing and they’ve done their due research – in the end though, whether or not all of this will help Andrea Flutter to get back to her normal life, it’s hard to say. The money should definitely help her stabilize her situation while she’s taking care of her child, but the pain may be something she has to deal with for a long time.
