X-Men: Apocalypse to See Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler’s Younger Version, Reports Suggest

Fans of “X-Men” are going to see some familiar faces in the new “X-Men: Apocalypse” when it comes out, but there will also be new additions to the cast, and so far the production is shaping up very interesting based on the choice of actors alone. It was recently revealed, for example, that Kodi Smit-McPhee will be taking on the role of younger Nightcrawler in the new film.

This was revealed by the director of the film, Bryan Singer, on his iInstagram account. Kodi Smit-McPhee is a popular actor with several well-known performances, including his role in “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes”, a role that drew particular attention to him and shot him.

Nightcrawler has been seen in “X-Men” films before, first appearing in “X2: X-Men United”, where he was shown in a scene taking place in the White House which subsequently reached a nearly iconic status, as many fans still remember it as one of the most interesting and successful scenes in the entire franchise.

The character was portrayed by Alan Cumming back then, and his solid performance led many fans and critics to believe that we were going to see more of him in the next films, but that didn’t happen, and Nightcrawler was completely phased out of the film franchise. That is, until now, as it seems that the producers are planning to bring him back, and perhaps even give him even more focus than he got before. Which could certainly never hurt, as Nightcrawler is among the more interesting characters in the “X-Men” universe.

He’s one of the more developed characters in fact, and has lots of history behind him, and even a cult following of fans. One of the notable features of the character is that he’s openly religious, a Catholic Christian to be precise.

Singer also released some concept art from behind the scenes, drawn in the well-known color scheme associated with Apocalypse, giving an insight into what fans could expect from the film once it’s released. Which, according to rumors from the set, is coming along nicely and the film’s producers haven’t encountered any unexpected problems yet that would require them to delay the release. Judging by everything we’re hearing about the movie so far, it’s shaping up to be a very solid entry into the “X-Men” universe, and should satisfy many fans’ cravings to see the story expanded and developed in more directions. The film should be ready in about a year and a half, scheduled to hit the screen in May 2016, if all goes according to plan. Of course, a lot can happen until then, but things are looking good so far.
