While PC owners have been able to enjoy the new “Sims 4” since the game’s release, those with a Mac were forced to wait a little longer as EA were preparing the release for the platform. And now, the big day is finally here – the studio has officially released the Mac version of the popular title, and it’s now available for download through their Origin platform.
And EA seem to be improving as a business as well – the company announced a while ago that they plan on giving the Mac version for free to those who have already bought it on PC, and that’s exactly how the system works. In the end, this basically means that buying the game grants the user a universal license that can be used on all eligible platforms, as long as Origin is downloaded and installed.
This even includes people who’ve bought the game on a disc from a retail store, not just players who’ve purchased it on Origin. In addition, players who have been enjoying the game on a PC but want to continue playing on a Mac for whatever reason won’t have to start over – they can transfer their progress and resume their game from the very same spot!
This also applies to any add-ons that the user may have installed on their PC version – they will be automatically transferred to the Mac version of the game, and the user won’t even have to put any effort into that, it’s all an automated process handled by Origin.
So far, “The Sims 4” has been enjoying a great run, receiving lots of critical praise and performing quite well on the market as well. While there was initially some negativity stemming from certain cut features, the public seems to have mostly calmed down at this point. New content being released for the title also fills in various gaps that have been the source for some player complaints, and the game is shaping up to be the best installment in the franchise so far, at least as far as development effort is concerned.
System requirements for the Mac version are mostly in line with those for the PC, which means that EA have handled the port very well, although there were rumors that the studio was developing the game with multiplatform support from the ground up, so that may not be so surprising. In any case, releasing “The Sims 4” on Mac should definitely help the game’s popularity, as a large portion of the franchise’s fans are on this platform exactly. The series has always been aimed at more casual gamers looking for some relaxed fun, and there are apparently lots of those on Apple’s platform.
