Amar’e Stoudemire as a good and dependable big man is still being recognized in the NBA. One day after being waived by the New York Knicks by buying out the final year of his five-year contract, Stoudemire has already committed to play with the Dallas Mavericks soon enough.
While his original team the Phoenix Suns has already expressed interest to get his services anew after he was released by the New York Knicks, Amar’e opted to commit to play instead with the Mavericks.
Fansided explained the decision of Stoudemire to join the Mavericks instead of the Suns because the big man feels that he can have the opportunity to win a championship with Dallas than playing for Phoenix.
According to the report, the pick-and-roll intensive offense of the Dallas Mavericks plays on his strength which would be good for him to get back in his groove as a power inside the paint where he have better opportunities to score.
That’s in addition to the fact that the Mavericks also have a highly respected medical staff led by Team USA athletic trainer Casey Smith, who can maximize his chance of staying healthy for the remainder of the season and the playoffs even as they focus on tending to his chronic back and knee problems.
Bench player
Amar’e Stoudemire is just waiting to clear all his waivers with the Knicks. He will then sign with the Dallas Mavericks right away with less than two days to go before the NBA trading deadline.
Once he dons the Mavericks uniform, Stoudemire will reportedly come off the bench behind Tyson Chandler, who also came from the Knicks.
He will definitely be a plus factor in the Mavericks final push for better seeding in the playoffs. In addition to Dirk Nowitzki, Dallas has other explosive players like Monta Ellis, Tyson Chandler and Rajon Rondo as well as talented role players which contributed to the team’s 36-19 win-loss record before the NBA All-Star break, good for fifth spot in the Western Conference.
The Mavs are actually just one game behind the 3rd and 4th placers in the West, the Portland Trailblazers and the Houston Rockets, respectively.
Disappointed with the decision
One NBA team who expressed dismay over the decision of Amar’e Stoudemire to commit to sign with the Dallas Mavericks is the Phoenix Suns.
The Suns were already rolling out the red carpet for the return of Stoudemire to the desert where he originally came from, willing to welcome him back with open arms despite breaking their hearts five years ago, but Amar’e broke their hearts anew by agreeing to play instead in Dallas.
Phoenix was actually looking to address its three-headed monster problem in the back court with the possible entry of Amar’e Stoudemire but now that the option is gone, the team will need to come up with a Plan B. And it only has two days left to look for a trade partner to solve its obvious team imbalance.
