The versatility of a female singer can be defined not only by how wide her song selection can be but also on how she can make the personal adjustment to fit her music with that of her looks.
Just like Lady Gaga, Nicky Minaj has recently undergone a transformation from her cartoonish character look previously to her current pared-down and more formal look, details Yahoo! News.
The “Super Bass” singer attributes the change in her personal appearance and outfit of choice due to her recently -released third album titled “The Pinkprint,” which she says is very personal to her.
“The Pinkprint” was released in December 2014, which according to Nicky Minaj was her most personal piece of work yet because it included subjects or topics like teenage abortion, breakups, and use of painkillers, which she all had to go through during the early years of her life.
The 32-year-old singer said that initially she found it difficult to show her more personal side to the public but eventually she found out that she was glad to have done it because the album has been well-received by her fans and the music industry in general.
Letting her guard down
Nicky says that in the album “The Pinkprint,” she obviously let her guard down and allowed the public to see through her.
She says that she needed to transform her look to go with her new album because the new music is more personal to her and speaks about her as a person. So from previously wearing brightly-colored wigs and over-the-top make-up and outfits, she turned into a glam girl that she can actually be.
Despite her change, there are still critics who found her transformation to be scripted or part of an act. Nicky says that it’s really difficult to please everybody or keep everyone happy in the music industry.
She says she really feels frustrated about the criticisms against her because everybody wants something different from her. Nicky however blames only herself for the negative comments on her because she gave people a lot of different things to choose from her during the early stage of her career.
Time for herself
Nicky says that it’s no longer her problem if she is such a multi-faceted person who never wants to stop on one thing.
She admits that she is a workaholic too but is planning to find the perfect time for herself in the near future.
The pop singer-rapper says that she also got so exhausted last year that after putting together and completing “The Pinkprint,” she planned to have some time to live her life and simply not care about what other people say about her. She said that she plans to live her life in 2015 while continuing to make music, without regard for the opinions of others.
