Jennifer Lopez has always been proud that she came from the Bronx borough of New York. She has a childhood home in the place and she also grew up there.
J-Lo had the opportunity to revisit her place of origin, known as ‘the block,’ in a TNT music special called “Neighborhood Sessions with Jennifer Lopez.” It will air on February 14 after the TNT coverage of the NBA All-Star Saturday Night.
“Neighborhood Sessions” is a new series of music specials where celebrity performers highlight the communities where they came from. Jennifer Lopez will premiere in its first episode.
The “Booty” singer will revisit some of the places in the Bronx. She also performs her first Bronx concert at Orchard Beach, cites Yahoo! TV from an AP report.
Jennifer Lopez said in a recent interview that it is essential for her to show to the whole world and her fans where she came from. She said that her taste, her preferences, her outlook, her attitude, and everything about her have been influenced by the fact that she grew up in the Bronx.
The “American Idol” judge said that she also attributes her present style in outfit to where she came from. She cited while laughing that she still loves big jewelry like most people in the Bronx do.
Not big enough
J-Lo has never had the opportunity to stage a concert before her hometown crowd because there was no real venue in the place. So when she was presented the Orchard Beach concert, she spared no time to accept it.
She said that her only regret was the limited space that the place can accommodate because J-Lo wanted to get as many hometown people as possible to the show.
Jennifer Lopez also recalled the time when they were still rehearsing for the concert. She says that Orchard Beach has full of childhood memories for her. She also knows that her mother keeps pictures of her on that beach when she was just a one-year-old baby.
Proud where she came from
J-Lo says that she has managed to go out in the world and become successful as an artist and an actress because of the stability and footing that she got from her family and the Bronx.
She said that she would not be able to manage all the craziness of her rise to fame and popularity if not for her experience growing up in the Bronx.
In the special, Jennifer Lopez will also be seen taking her six-year-old twins Max and Emme to the boys and girls club in the Bronx where she spent time as a child. J-Lo says that she found it surreal to take her children to the place where she grew up. She told them that when she was still a kid, she considers it the best place in the world for her and her two children would be surprised and asked her: “Really? This place?”
Of course she understands her children’s amazement considering that things were different from her and her children growing up but she says that what she said to them is true.
