The studio behind “Fallout” and “The Elder Scrolls”, Bethesda, has just confirmed an appearance at E3, scheduled for June 14. Given the nature of the announcement, and the fact that Bethesda have been very quiet about their development recently, this has immediately prompted some fans to jump to the conclusion that the big moment for “Fallout” fans has finally arrived, and “Fallout 4” is going to be announced at E3.
Of course, Bethesda have said nothing about what exactly they’ll be presenting at E3, as their blog post was basically just a date confirmation. Something unusual about the announcement is the fact that E3 doesn’t start until June 16, so Bethesda have technically announced that they’ll be making their presentation before the beginning of the event. How they’re going to pull this off, and what this means exactly, we’ll see in a few months – but so far, there’s a pretty strong possibility that we’re going to see “Fallout 4” in June.
After all, other than that, Bethesda don’t have any other major announcements to make. Revealing “The Elder Scrolls 6” would certainly be nice, but it’s highly unlikely that this is what the event is about, as the next “Elder Scrolls” game is likely not that far ahead in its development, if the rumors about it are true.
Another possibility mentioned by some fans is that we might see “Dishonored 2”, although that also seems somewhat unlikely, given how little information has come out about the game, even unofficially. Most rumors coming out of Bethesda lately have been talking about “Fallout 4” pretty much exclusively, and while of course they’re all unofficial claims, there’s usually a grain of truth to any rumor, especially when it gets repeated several times by multiple sources.
We know for sure that it’s not going to be “Prey 2” in any case, as Bethesda have officially cancelled the development of the title several months ago. The news came as a disappointment to many fans of the first game who were excited by the information we had about “Prey 2”, but apparently Bethesda were not satisfied with the direction the game’s development was headed in, and have decided to scrap the project entirely.
There are several months to go until E3, and it looks like they’re shaping up to be the most difficult months in the lives of “Fallout” fans. It’s one thing to wait for an official announcement and not know when it’s coming – but to have the date right there, being 99% sure what it’s going to be about, and having to wait four months to actually see the revelation, that’s probably torture for the most dedicated fans of the franchise.
