The iPod Touch 6G is nothing but a rumor so far, and yet fans of the company and its iconic music players have been very eager to get new information about the device. Apple have recently revealed several new entries into their mobile line, but nothing was said about a new iPod Touch. However, according to rumors, the company is not only actively developing the device behind the scenes, but they’re actually gearing up for a release soon.
It was expected that the iPod Touch 6G would be announced in October, although Apple’s event came and passed without any such announcements back then. Not even a hint was given about the new music player, but shortly after the event, rumors started making their way to the crowds – reportedly from within the company itself.
There are several interesting points to take from the most popular rumors so far. First, it seems that Apple are considering a 4-inch design for the new player, complete with a retina display. This might sound a bit weird, considering the screen has never been a major selling point of a music player, but the iPod Touch has traditionally been a mix between a music player and a mobile phone (without the actual phoning capabilities), so it makes sense that the company would want to improve the user experience in this regard.
On the inside, the new iPod Touch could also see improvements in its processor and RAM, as well as receive more extensive storage capabilities. The last part would probably be the most relevant one for people who’re actually buying this device as a music player, although it’s not yet known what size options Apple are going to offer. Rumors state that the models will start at 32 GB, and it doesn’t seem too impossible that Apple may want to get rid of 16 GB versions completely in the future, considering how cheap memory has become, and how much more space media tends to require nowadays.
While some rumors are claiming that the device will actually be ready for Christmas, those sound very implausible, especially given the lack of an official announcement. Apple would need some time to properly get their customers excited, as they usually do, and it doesn’t make much sense for them to announce the device just before releasing it on the market. It’s much more likely that the new iPod Touch will hit stores somewhere in the beginning of 2015, although those are also rumors at this point. If they are true though, Apple should come out with an official announcement very shortly, possibly even sometime before the end of 2014.
