2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe All Set to Compete with the BMW 6 Series and the Audi A5 in January Next Year

German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz is all set to roll out the two-door coupe version of its 2017 E-Class saloon in January next year after its debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan.

When it comes out in the luxury retail car markets, the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class coupe would immediately compete with the BMW 6 series and the Audi A5, which are also expected to make their grand splash in the markets around the same time, reports I4U News.

According to reports, the 2017 E-Class coupe shall form the basis for the all-new E-Class cabriolet that shall subsequently come out later in 2017. Initial reports have it that the cabriolet will feature a fabric hood and two plus two seating system.

It has been previously reported that the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class coupe is also set to arrive in the UK market in early next year, and would come out very different from the conventional cars of the German carmaker.

Gorden Wagener, the car designer of Mercedes-Benz, confirmed that the 2017 E-Class coupe is going to be a standout among the other cars of the automaker.

The 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class coupe will share its maximum features with an E-Class saloon, offering a 12.3 inches digital instrument display and a multi-function steering wheel that will have a touch sensitive pads.

It shall also have a Mercedes MRA platform for a base. This platform is already being used by both the C-Class and S-Class. The coupe will also feature 2.0-liter diesel, four-cylinder engine variant, in addition to the 3.0-liter six-cylinder diesel engine model. Of course, it shall have petrol engine variants too.

Some variants of the 2017 E-Class being recalled

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of the US has recalled some of the early builds of the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class, particularly the E300 and E300 4matic sedans, apparently because of their engine stalling problem.

Accordingly, the engine stalling happens if a passenger sits at a particular area of the rear seat, reports Tech 2.

The NHTSA, however, would like to make it clear that the E-Class that it is recalling are those that were built from December 10, 2015 up to June 30, 2016, which have the wiring below the rear seats.

Apparently, when pressure is applied to the rear seat, the fuel pump, fuel tank pressure sensor, and fuel gauge get pressed down, which cuts off the supply of fuel to the engine, shutting it in the process.

According to reports, there are a total of 6,858 cars which have wiring harnesses mounted under the rear seat. It is just fortunate for Mercedes-Benz that 3,100 of the affected vehicles are yet to be sold. But for those who were unlucky enough to buy it but have yet to discover the issue, dealers have reportedly found a way to reroute the wiring so it is more of a quick fix solution than a complete overhaul.

‘Executive Car of the Year’

Meanwhile, the latest executive saloon variant of the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class has been named by critics over at Auto Express as the executive car of the year, citing the vehicle for its imperious quality and refinement.

Apart from being the plushiest and the priciest entry in the market of the German luxury carmaker, the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is a comfortable and luxury-tinted option to the driver-focused luxury cars from BMW and Audi.

More than its great and stylish design, the 2017 E-Class executive saloon also features an interior that is packed with technology and a slippery shape mimicking the S-Class and the C-Class.

The vehicle comes with diesel, petrol, and plug-in hybrid powertrain options. In addition to a saloon or estate variants, there shall also be the coupe and cabriolet models arriving in the showrooms soon.

The design of the E-Class is heavily inspired by Mercedes’ flagship executive car, the S-Class saloon, and even the smaller C-Class, which also boasts of similar touches.
