The 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan will officially roll out to global motoring markets in the summer of this year.
But since its official unveiling at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan in January this year, the luxury sedan has been generating mostly positive reviews from both enthusiasts and critics.
In addition to its handsome looks that remind everyone of the bigger S-Class luxury sedan, the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is bound to push the boundaries of autonomous driving technology, details The Car Connection.
The 2017 E-Class is the German automaker’s mid-size four-door sedan whose larger body is shared with the S-Class and the C-Class sedans. But it is being positioned by Mercedes-Benz as the most intelligent sedan from its lineup.
What’s good about the 2017 E-Class is it shall continue to remain as the benchmark among luxury mid-size and four-door sedans because Mercedes-Benz has really outdone itself by infusing in more autonomous-driving, safety, as well as infotainment hardware on the vehicle.
The sedan can now drive almost entirely by itself at autobahn speeds, and can sense the road ahead at US highways speeds when the road itself is in poor condition. The technology is already beyond mere cruise control.
An important model
The E-Class is regarded as one of the most important models in Mercedes-Benz’s lineup because it has sold more than 13 million units of the vehicle worldwide since the brand was introduced back in 1993, notes the Robb Report.
Gordon Wagener, Mercedes-Benz Chief Designer, said that their design philosophy for the E-Class was both hot and cold.
He explained that hot means that consumers will fall in love with it and cool means that it will feature the latest technology.
True enough, technology is the major highlight of the 2017 E-Class, with the autonomous driving technology as its key driver. The feature can accelerate, brake, and steer the car at speeds of up to 130 mph and can also help the car change lane.
Because of its unique styling, the 2017 E-Class actually exudes a balanced and classic handsome look with its long hood and short trunk lid profile that lays out over a longer wheelbase, giving it a more relaxed aura than the compact C-Class.
As far as its interior goes, the E-Class cabin adopts the elegant and effusive looks of the S-Class, with the brand’s hallmark metallic trim door with circular air vents.
The dash is also covered in stitched leather and warmed by ambient lighting on some models, and dominated by twin display screens.
The navigation and infotainment display features a 12.3-inch high-resolution screen that caps a center stack that houses thin rows of climate-control switches.
The mid-size sedan also adopts touch-sensitive controls on the steering wheel that offer swipe-and-tap control in place of the clicking switches.
A new variant now under development
The 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class luxury sedan from the German carmaker has been reported to come out late in summer this year but a new variant is reportedly in the works and it is going to be a sports car.
While there are already plenty of reported features, specifications, and capabilities of the sedan available on the internet and Mercedes-Benz retailers around the world, the German luxury carmaker has yet to announce a specific release date for its latest offering that shares the signatures of both the C-Class and the S-Class sedans.
But Mercedes-Benz somehow pulled a surprise recently when three E-Class Coupe prototypes were spotted together riding with a Porsche 911 in Stuttgart, Germany.
Everyone knows that Stuttgart is where both Porsche and Mercedes-Benz do their finest work as carmakers.
According to reports, the vehicle is to be a 2018 model and shall be officially called as the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe.
