There have been some minor rumors that the Jeep Compass might be coming back for another iteration sometime soon, but nothing serious so far. And now, we’re getting even more reports claiming that the model is being prepared for a return to the market, with a 2017 model in the works that will come with some interesting improvements to the overall formula. There are also reports that the new model was already spotted in Michigan during the week, and it’s starting to sound like this could be an exciting release.
Rumors say that the new model will be aimed at competing directly with the Mazda CX-5, and it will have a very specific place in the company’s line-up, between the new Renegade and the Cherokee, and Jeep are apparently already planning a very specific market strategy with this model. The company seems to have a clear plan about what they want to do with the new Compass and want to have a serious impact on the market, so we might see some interesting changes in the future.
We still don’t know much about the actual specifications of the model, but there are reports that we may see it with a four-cylinder Multijet diesel engine, as well as a petrol variant. There will also be options for both a manual as well as automatic transmission, and it’s actually claimed that the automatic version will be quite advanced and offer very precise control over the ride with minimal effort.
Of course, this is a Jeep SUV, so it’s practically mandatory that it must have a 4WD system, and this is what the rumors are claiming as well. We don’t know if there will be any other options apart from that – and Jeep are generally not fans of 2WD systems for some of their models, but the company’s vision has been changing a lot lately, so we might see them introducing some changes to their model line-up as well.
In any case, we won’t know much about the new Compass on the official front until some time has passed, as it’s being targeted for a 2016-2017 release according to rumors. Because of this, Jeep are probably going to keep quiet about it for the time being and let the rumors do the talking, while we’re also catching the occasional glimpse of the model here and there.
The company should know to be careful with how much they’re relying on those rumors for spreading the word about the new 2017 Compass however – if they’re not careful, it can easily happen that people will get the wrong idea about the model and will end up discussing aspects of it that were never meant to happen in the first place. We have plenty of rumors about the Compass right now and more will likely come in the future as well, so we wouldn’t be surprised if people end up talking about the model a lot on messaging boards and such. And if they don’t have much official information to go with, they will of course discuss what they know from rumors.
Jeep are a smart player on the market, of course, and they know how the game works – so they’re definitely not going to make any claims about the new Compass before they’re sure that they will make the right kind of impact. On the other hand, they will also not let rumors ruin the popularity of this model and affect the release negatively.
