With the current level of world pollution, there hasn’t been a greater demand for green cars until recently. Korean automakers, Hyundai are all set to launch their first electric car. The car will launch in 2017, and the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rated it as one of the most efficient cars.
With Hyundai Ioniq Electric getting the most efficient car tag, it dethrones BMW i3 from its leading position in the current market. The 2017 Hyundai Ioniq Electric has a range of 124 miles with only a 28 kWh battery pack, and it outperforms all currently available electronic vehicles.
Hyundai Ioniq Electric beats the i3, which has a 94 Amp-hour battery with its 60 Amp-hour battery.
Even though EPA didn’t test all the models of the 2017 Hyundai Ioniq Electric, with an annual fuel cost lesser than the next best category in the market, the car is here to rule the charts for a while.
Hyundai Ioniq Electric is already in operation in Korea and Europe. While it was launched in Korea, earlier in 2016, the car arrived in Europe at the beginning of November. North American buyers can expect the vehicle to enter the market in the first half of 2017.
According to Electrek, the 2017 Hyundai Ioniq Electric will start with a price bracket of $37,900 USD. The pricing places it in the same category as the BMW i3, Nissan LEAF, and VW e-Golf.
The car might have received an excellent rating from the EPA, but it is set to face fierce competition in the USA with Chevy Bolt EV providing twice the energy efficiency at a range of 100 miles extra. The price for the two cars is also in the same price range.
Hyundai knows that it is here to set the trend since the Korean car company plans to launch four new electric vehicles by the end of 2020. The cars will have a +200 miles range.
Green Car Reports stated that Hyundai plans to launch the Ioniq Electric as part of a trio series. The electric car will be part of a series with a hybrid and a plug-in hybrid model. The three models have the same features and specifications apart from the mechanical part.
The Plug-in hybrid variant used the Plug-in charge feature with a battery system of 8.9 kHw, while the other two options use the hybrid powertrain and the EV powertrain respectively. Breathe Cast reported that the plug-in variant of the 2017 Hyundai Ioniq gives the user the option to choose between charging the car or filling gas. The 2017 Hyundai Ioniq Electric allows the user to charge either from home or work.
In spite of a high rating with the EPA and top-notch fuel efficiency, Hyundai is bound to face a problem with the car. The company is aware that they will have to struggle to sell the car to a public that is skeptical and unaware of the benefits of an electric car.
In an attempt to make the task easier for them. Hyundai has devised an interesting promotional technique to target the consumers. Instead of selling the cars in the market, directly to the customers, Hyundai will introduce a fleet of the 2017 Hyundai Ioniq Electric with the WaiveCar.
The startup for car-sharing will bring 400 Ioniq Electric hatchbacks into the market and enable the consumers to enjoy a ride in them, without spending money on the purchase. WaiveCar provides users with a low-priced car-sharing option. They sell ads on the vehicles and reduce the cost of the ride.
