The 2016 Volvo S90 is on its way, and people have been very excited about the new model, as recently leaked spy pictures of it seemed to show a lot to be excited for. Various details about the sedan have been making their way to the public lately, and it’s obvious that Volvo are putting a lot of effort into evolving this line and ensuring that their name stays relevant for a long time.
And yet, they are apparently also planning to keep supporting their current models for as long as possible, including the S80 which will still get produced until the beginning of 2016. And we certainly can’t blame the company for wanting to go that way either, as there is a lot of potential in the S80 at this point and its popularity is enough to warrant keeping its manufacturing active.
Plus, the recent talks about the S90 have been very beneficial to the popularity of the S80 itself, and people have been getting more and more interested in that model. Because of this, Volvo would definitely be smart to keep up the manufacturing in its current state, and we won’t be surprised to see an additional marketing push by the company to ensure that the S80 stays relevant and keeps getting noticed by people.
However, the price of the model likely isn’t going to change much – it’s currently set at $84,900 for the base model, and according to many critics that’s still a pretty good price for what the car has to offer. It’s certainly not a bad model in terms of performance and looks, and many of Volvo’s fans have been particularly fond of the S80 for quite some time. Sure, it’s not a model aimed at the general market and it’s actually quite niche, but Volvo know exactly who they’re targeting with its design.
But the popularity of the S80 is obvious in its sales numbers – it pales in comparison to the BMW 5 Series, which is the biggest competitor to the line. Because of this, it’s very likely that Volvo have been planning a major reevaluation of the entire setup of the S80, and are going to come out with something that improves on pretty much every aspect of the model once 2016 rolls around.
Response towards the leaked shots of the S90 has been very positive so far though, and it does look like Volvo are going to be very successful with this release if they play their cards right. There is so much attention towards the model on the market right now that they won’t even need to put a lot of effort into its marketing, although of course it will definitely help if they spread the word about the changes they’ve introduced in a more aggressive way. Still, as soon as the official details are released, people will be talking about them left and right, and there will be lots of threads on online forums for auto fans.
Among the various changes to the design from the S80 to the S90, the model has been made larger and apparently a little more aggressive. Volvo might be trying to pull in more customers for this one, and that certainly wouldn’t be a strange move if they know how to expand on the features that people want to see. There are various things about the line that have been enjoying a lot of popularity in the auto market as a whole, and Volvo could easily capitalize on those features for even more success.
