But according to some experts, it’s not money that Volkswagen should be worried about, at least not in the immediate sense. The company’s bigger problem that lies ahead of them is their market position – and that could end up getting affected very badly if things don’t work out correctly.
Without a good, extensive line of models to offer to their potential buyers, Volkswagen will be more limited in their market presence and will need to sort out the situation with what they have available. It’s not the end of the world for them, but it will definitely reflect on their performance to at least some extent.
Hopefully the company has learned a thing or two from this fiasco and they aren’t going to fiddle with regulations in the future.
This should also serve as a nice warning to all other manufacturers that have been thinking of messing with their cars’ parameters in order to pass certification procedures, as there is little to gain from this in the long run. The truth eventually surfaces in pretty much every case, and when it does, the results can be disastrous for those involved. As we’re seeing right now, not even a major company like Volkswagen is protected against the backlash that occurs once this has been brought to light, and they are still dealing with the fallout.
