The 2016 Toyota HiLux will be rolling out to the Asia and Oceania regions in October this year following its launching in May.
The Japanese carmaker expects that the 2016 HiLux will continue the legacy of the iconic brand among Toyota’s vehicle lines, having sold over 16 million units in more than 180 countries since its first generation was rolled out from the Toyota assembly line in 1968, details Car Scoops.
The 2016 HiLux is the eighth generation of the fabled Toyota pickup truck line. Based on the initial reviews of drivers who were privileged to have been given the opportunity to drive it, the latest model of the HiLux features improved ruggedness and performance while maintaining the toughness that the brand has been known for close to half a century.
Accordingly, Toyota took all the feedback of consumers of all its HiLux lines in the past and incorporated the valuable inputs in developing the next generation of the vehicle primarily focused on better performance, providing more comfort to its passengers, and easy to drive.
The Toyota engineers who have been part of the development of the 2016 Toyota HiLux say that the new pickup truck is not only built tougher but also reduces stress in driving.
The 2016 Toyota HiLux features improved ride comfort, a quiet cabin and enhanced cruising range primarily because of its improved fuel efficiency. It also sports a newly developed frame and suspension, with upgraded leaf springs and shock absorbers.
Premium interiors
Toyota describes the cabin of the 2016 HiLux as similar to an SUV in terms of space making it functional and very usable for all kinds of adventure and journey. It also comes with dual-cab models, which makes it ideal for both family and work use, details Car Advice of Australia.
The interiors exude the premium look anchored on its sophisticated appeal and also because it incorporates modern technology on its infotainment system.
The 2016 Toyota HiLux features in its interiors air-conditioning, cruise control, headlamp levelling, a 12-volt accessory socket, intermittent wipers, a center-console box and power operations for the windows, as well as mirror and door locks.
It is also loaded when it comes to safety and sports seven airbags, stability and traction control, anti-skid brakes, and an emergency stop signal.
In terms of what is under the hood, the 2016 HiLux features a 2,755-cc diesel engine capable of exuding 177 horsepower of maximum power and 450 Newton-meters of full torque which can be achieved between 1,600 to 2,400 rpm that goes well with a six-speed automatic transmission.
Toyota claims that the engine produces significantly improved torque at low speed, reduced noise, and very fuel efficient.
Coming to the US market?
While the Japanese carmaker has yet to confirm the report, there have been rumors going around lately that the 2016 Toyota HiLux will eventually be introduced into the US market for the first time soon.
Over the years, the Toyota HiLux has not made it to the North American market, including the US, because of the presence of the Toyota Tacoma. The Japanese carmaker has been releasing the Toyota Tacoma in the North and South American markets and outside of those continents, it is rolling out the Toyota HiLux.
Reports have it that the Japanese carmaker is planning the 2016 Toyota HiLux as a global model when it starts rolling out in Asia and Oceania regions in October.
The outlet said that should the entry of the 2016 Toyota HiLux pushes through, it will be the first time that it will do so because every American pickup truck enthusiast knows that Toyota’s brand in the segment is the Tacoma.
