2016 Mazda CX-5 Crash Prevention System Gets Excellent Safety Ratings from Safety Institute!

The crash prevention systems of the 2016 Mazda CX-5 and the Mazda6 were recently given superior ratings by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in its latest evaluation.

The excellent safety rating was a result of Mazda’s i-ACTIVSENSE advanced safety technologies, which the Japanese carmaker uses to refer to a series of modern safety features of the two vehicles that were developed in line with the Mazda Proactive Safety, details PR Newswire.

The Mazda Proactive Safety makes use of detection devices such as milliwave radars and cameras, and also includes features that support safe driving by enabling the driver to immediately recognize potential driving hazards while on the road.

It also involves pre-crash safety technologies that help prevent collisions or reduce their severity in the event that it cannot be avoided anymore.

Excellent safety features

In particular, the Grand Touring model of the 2016 Mazda CX-5 features the Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) which helps detect vehicles coming from the blind spot areas at the sides and rear of the vehicle. This particular feature is actually what seems to be missing in the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro, which GM appears to be addressing before rolling out the muscle car early next year.

Mazda’s BSM feature also includes the Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) function, which alerts the driver when the crossover detects vehicles approaching from either side as the driver backs up the vehicle.

The crossover Grand Touring variant also offers an optional Smart Brake Support (SBS), which prevents or avoid frontal or head-on collisions or minimize damage when travelling in medium- to high-speed mode by automatically braking when the vehicle senses an emergency ahead.

It also features the Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC) which automatically controls the vehicle speed to maintain the safe following distance from the vehicle in front in accordance with the target speed initially set by the driver.

Really fun to drive

Green Car Reports describes the 2016 Mazda CX-5 as a top pick among small crossovers in the market today. With its spacious, functional interiors, impressive fuel economy, top safety scores, fun-to-drive demeanor, the vehicle gives its owners the supreme edge without really spending a lot of money in buying it.

The 2016 CX-5 offers an engaging driving experience, roomy and comfortable seating both for the driver and its passengers, and many desirable safety features.

The only downside to the CUV, as determined by some motoring critics is that it has a subpar stereo sound quality and its base engine has relatively weak acceleration.

The fourth and latest iteration to the Mazda CX-5, the 2016 edition offers only minor but meaningful modifications from its previous model.

Except for some outward alterations, the 2016 Mazda CX-5 still maintained the uncluttered exterior styling that the brand has been known to exude when its first generation was introduced in the market in 2012 as a 2013 model.

Among these exterior modifications include the new grille and horizontal strips as well as the addition of the rear LED light signatures to mirror those of the optional headlights out in the front.

Mazda has maintained its groundbreaking Skyactive engine and chassis technologies ensuring that the 2016 CX-5 remains an agile crossover utility vehicle just like its predecessor variants.

Much of the modifications on the 2016 Mazda CX-5 are made on its interiors, making its cabin comparable to those of very expensive crossovers and SUVs from luxury carmakers. Mazda, after all, is regarded in the motoring industry, as the BMW among mid-range car manufacturers of the world.

Featuring an expressive design highlighted by big wheel arches and rising window line, the 2016 Mazda CX-5 has struck a good balance between its sports sedans and the real world dimensions of a crossover utility vehicle.
