Hyundai just made a big announcement in Seoul a few days ago, revealing the 2016 Sonata Hybrid at a special ceremony. For all intents and purposes, the model is a significant upgrade from the old entries in the line, both in terms of its powertrain, as well as comfort/luxury and style. The car also comes with improved gas mileage and better control, and all in all, it’s a fantastic offer that’s sure to attract many eyes in the coming weeks.
Hyundai have been a bit secretive about the car after revealing it though, as not all details about it are fully known at this point. Something that’s yet to be revealed in detail is the exact nature of the new powertrain, although it’s shaping up to be something extraordinary, and the company is planning to release more detailed information at the Detroit Auto Show in early 2015.
A new battery pack is also included, going up from 1.43 kWh to 1.62. At the same time, the car now offers significantly improved gas mileage, and not just because of improvements in its engine. Hyundai’s clever engineers and designers have reportedly managed to get better gas mileage out of the vehicle by redesigning its body. It’s not clear if the results were due to better aerodynamic properties, or because the new body layout allows the internal mechanics of the car to work more efficiently, but one thing is clear – the new 2016 Hyundai Sonata comes with a 18.2 km/l gas mileage, 1.5 more than the last entry in the line.
The car is more stylish and roomier as well, with an increase in trunk space and a slight redesign of the interior that makes it look much more comfortable and attractive. Hyundai seem to be moving quite fast into the future with their approach to interior design, as the new model not only looks in line with modern trends, it actually manages to beat offers by some of Hyundai’s competitors in the visuals department. There is a noticeable increase in use of electronics as well.
Hyundai know how to deliver a good hybrid, and it seems that the 2016 Sonata is going to be a major statement in this regard. The company has been putting a lot of effort into the improved design of their new model, and in a few months, it will become apparent if their work has been fruitful. Given everything that’s been announced about the vehicle so far though, it seems that Hyundai are about to enter the market with a very successful hit, one that can realistically even set some new trends for the future of this market segment.
