The 2015 Jeep Wrangler Sport tops the list of the cheapest vehicles to insure in the United States this year as compiled by Insure.com, needing a yearly premium of only $1,134 to stay protected for the entire year, reports the New York Daily News.
In the same breadth, Insure.com also made a list of the most expensive vehicles to insure in the US for 2015 and the Nissan GT-R Nismo topped the list with a yearly premium of $3,574 to get one-year protection on the road.
The fact that the 2015 Jeep Wrangler Sport 4WD is the cheapest vehicle to insure in the US this year means only one thing – insurers believe that it is the least likely among vehicles today to have an accident that is why it has the least risk and thus the lowest premium of them all.
But that does not indicate that it is the safest among the vehicles that are included in the list of cheapest vehicles to insure this year in the US. Neither does the list of the most expensive vehicles to insure in 2015 mean that they are the worst in terms of safety.
Premium on safety
Today’s carmakers put premium on safety and they would certainly not roll out their vehicles from the assembly plant if it would compromise the safety of its driver and passengers.
The number of vehicle recalls by many carmakers in recent past until today also indicate that the world’s auto manufacturers have become more concerned with safety so much so that it wanted to avoid accidents and paying for often costly but otherwise easily addressable claims.
Insure.com made its list based on loss and insurance claims history as well as accident and risk records of the vehicles out in the market today. As it turned out, the 2015 Jeep Wrangler Sport, based on claims history of its predecessor models, is the least likely to figure in an accident or mishap, thus earning the lowest premium.
Cost-effective insurance
Based on the list of Insure.com, family vehicles take the lead for the most cost-effective vehicles to insure.
In addition to the 2015 Jeep Wrangler Sport, the other vehicles in the list of the cheapest to insure in the US include the Jeep Patriot Sport 2WD, the Honda CR-V LX 4WD, the Dodge Grand Caravan SE Plus, the Honda Odyssey LX, the Jeep Compass Sport 2WD, the Subaru Outback 2.5i, the Ford Edge SE 2WD, the Smart ForTwo Pure, and the Ford Escape S 2WD.
All these vehicles can be insured for a premium of under $1,200 to avail of one-year protection. It can also be noted that majority of the vehicles that are cheapest to insure are crossovers and SUVs, with the exception of the Smart ForTwo Pure, and it is only because of its below-average losses from claims.
Meanwhile, in the company of the Nissan GT-R Nismo in the list of most expensive vehicles to insure in the US this year are the Mercedes Benz SL65 AMG Convertible, the Dodge SRT Viper, the Porsche 911 Carrera S Cabriolet, the Audi R8 5.2 Spyder Quattro, the Porsche Panamera Turbo Executive, the BMW 760Li, the BMW M6 Convertible, the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG 4Matic Wagon, and the Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG 4Matic Sedan.
